Many high school students are interested in the question of how to prepare for the Unified State Exam in Biology from scratch on their own? It is especially of concern to those who want to connect their lives in the future with medicine, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, agrotechnical specialties, psychology, physical education, or seriously engage in the same science. According to statistics, for last years Biology is passed by approximately 17-18% of graduates and takes 5th place among elective exams.
Is it possible to learn the entire volume of biological knowledge yourself, and even for short term(six months, a year, or even a couple of months)? Of course, yes, if you know what the Unified State Exam is and understand how to properly prepare for it?
Before moving on to the structure of the exam itself, I would like to remind you what is included in the course school biology. These are topics such as:

For each correct solution you can get from 1 to 3 so-called primary points, which are subsequently converted into test scores, where the maximum possible number of primary points corresponds to 100 test scores. However, the chance of getting all 100 points, especially when preparing from scratch, is very low: in all recent years, not even 1% of examinees get them. But passing the Unified State Exam with a high score, and even more so with a passing grade, is quite possible.
What to do?
Where to start preparing for the exam? In our opinion, from self-discipline. The most important thing is that when you start preparing for the exam, you should do it regularly. It is desirable that there be a constant frequency and classes are not missed. After all, by doing even 15 minutes 5 days a week, you will achieve much more than if you torture yourself all day, but absolutely irregularly. It is also undesirable to be distracted; it is necessary to completely immerse yourself in studying the subject.
Preparation should include both the solution trial options the test and its individual parts, as well as familiarization with the theory. Learning biology is not so difficult if you first take a couple of tests and determine which topics you know well enough and which ones “sag” and require additional attention. It is the latter that need to be studied more carefully.
You can use both the Internet and books for preparation, or better yet, both. It is recommended to first go through practice test, then work on individual sections, with a limited time, starting with the weakest ones, and then move on to passing tests again. This is the structure that most tutors adhere to, which means that those who prepare themselves should adopt it.
When solving tests, as well as during the exam itself, it is necessary to follow one more very important rule- read the question carefully! Many examinees make stupid mistakes not from ignorance, but from inattention. The latter, in turn, can appear due to excitement, so the following important rule- try not to worry. It can be difficult, so it's worth remembering as you prepare that there's nothing scary about the exam, and even failing the test isn't the end of your life! The ability to relax and calm down can become a good helper when passing the exam.
What should you not do?
Now that we've looked at what to do, I'd like to briefly touch on the topic of what not to do. Unfortunately, there are many students who take exams too lightly or, on the contrary, stress themselves beyond measure.
What not to do:
- Hoping for chance. The Unified State Exam becomes more complicated every year so that the percentage of those who “guess correctly” is less and less. Therefore, to think that preparation for the exam is not necessary at all is, to say the least, stupid.
- Write "spurs". The surveillance of each exam participant is quite serious. You can be removed during testing, and the right to rewrite it will only be a year later. Therefore, of course, you can write spurs. But you shouldn’t bring them to the exam.
- Bring yourself to nervous breakdown. Sometimes a person starting to prepare for a biology exam believes that the more time spent studying the subject, the better. On the contrary, by ignoring the body's needs for rest, you risk either leading yourself to a nervous breakdown, or at least forgetting everything you need at the time of the exam due to overload. Everything is good in moderation!
- Study the material on the last night. Firstly, you simply won’t be able to pack all the knowledge in biology into your head overnight. Secondly, if you come to the exam sleep-deprived and tired, you will have little chance of doing well on the test. Therefore, regardless of what you have done, you need to go to bed early and get enough sleep before the exam!

I really, really love my job!
I enjoy my work, I feel passion for it, and I have a calm confidence in biology itself.
Except teacher education I have KSPU psychological education Faculty of Retraining, Moscow State Pedagogical University. Moreover, I have a number of international certificates in the field of psychology.
Therefore, I have knowledge of how to organize biology learning in a fun way, not only individually, but also in a group. Most of my students pass the Unified State Exam in biology with high scores. This year I liked the number - 86 points. Where did my students go? This year (and next year my student is going there again) one of the desired victories is the psychology department of Moscow State University, with an internal exam. Others mostly went to famous medical universities– MMA, MGMSU.
I constantly improve my teaching methods and my knowledge. I work a lot with a computer, I know how to use high-speed printing, I keep track of everything new from the world of biology on the Internet, I acquire modern literature in biology, I constantly turn to University program in biology.
What makes my approach to teaching biology unique? Or in other words, why do you need me?
1. Deep structuring and analysis of the material required for passing the Unified State Exam in biology.
Why is biology taught at school for 6 years? The answer is obvious: biology is very long (for example, 2 years more than chemistry). I have spent full analysis content of material for grades 6-11, which must be mastered for the Unified State Exam. Students often ask the question: is this material exactly going to be on the Unified State Exam? I provide a list of all terms, concepts, topics that are included in state standard. Everything in this standard is subject to study. If we lose some topics, we risk losing points on the Unified State Exam. Often, even with a tutor, students do not have time to study something, or do not know that it is necessary. This can have different consequences.
Many people underestimate the need to carefully understand which content blocks will be tested on the Unified State Exam. Often I come across tests that go beyond school curriculum.
For example, in the program entrance exams in biology at Moscow State University there are many questions that go beyond the scope of the school curriculum. Answering them requires knowledge that is not presented in school textbooks. Where can I find this knowledge? How can you be sure to prepare and not miss anything? How to train is not only up to standard tasks, but also other, unexpected tasks, often found in part C, in Olympiads?
2. Speech acquisition biological knowledge through live dialogue.
When can we talk about good results in mastering biology? When it will be mercilessly destroyed the language barrier student when he can speak fluently using biological terminology. This is comparable to mastering any foreign language.
In order for a student to speak, systems of deeply acquired concepts must be created in the mind. In order to answer any tests, part “C” tasks in the Unified State Exam, in order to pass internal exam at Moscow State University, you must be able to write texts on biology. Accordingly, before this you need to talk, discuss, and cover a huge number of topics in classes with a tutor. How much does the student talk about biological topics? We are very deprived of live specialized speech. Yes, many people have one biology lesson per week at school. But all other time is contact with books and computers. A live dialogue with a knowledge holder is an opportunity to learn a lot of new things in a short time, to go through absolutely different topics, fill in the gaps.
3. Use of the most modern computer programs and books on biology.
Real story. I'm meeting a new student. And I see books in his arsenal excellent selection– two textbooks on biology by different authors! Excellent, having prepared using this literature, he is ready to go to the exam tomorrow. But no, can I take such a risk? Other sources are also needed. Often in some textbooks students understand the material less, in others more. Need at least 2-3 lines school textbooks. But we still need computer programs. They have wonderful animations, videos, tests, drawings and diagrams. All this dramatically increases the level of understanding of the material, contributes to more effective memorization in preparation for homework.
How to choose such programs? How to evaluate them? How to combine work on these programs with studying other sources when preparing homework? Another necessity is manuals for preparing for the Unified State Exam. Which one is better to choose? I evaluated these manuals and chose the most serious and well-known ones.
4. Development of logic in lessons and constant answers to questions: why, why, how?
We analyze (we analyze any issues in detail), synthesize (we put together whole pictures from details), and generalize huge topics. The result is a deep understanding of the most complex sections. We learn to reason, to search causally - investigative connections, and even enter into discussions with students. Moreover, I teach the skills of finding main and secondary ideas in each paragraph of text, as well as how these ideas are connected. The text has not only content, but also form. Content is the main and secondary thoughts. Form is the way they are arranged, connected. Sometimes the main idea is hidden, or not indicated at all. How to find her? All this is necessary for quality reading when preparing homework.
5. Penetration into the very structure of memorization.
Emotions are needed to remember. The student begins to experience them when he himself thinks deeply about many questions, when interest ignites in him. When he asks smart and detailed questions. Moreover, I always purposefully propose such questions to the student. Biology becomes alive for the student. When he reads and does homework, he forgets about everything, as he is completely involved in the process. That’s when the memory works 100 percent! Knowledge gained through passion, through experience, through vivid visualization, remains forever.
Moreover, I often ask students this question: “What does this knowledge look like?” Why? So that the student himself, or with my help, comes up with a living, vivid metaphor - then the knowledge will remain forever, on physical level, in body. Many years after the Unified State Exam, such knowledge can be extracted to surprise posterity. I will never forget how one of my students, who entered the psychology department of Moscow State University this year, came up with an excellent phrase while studying the suborders of artiodactyl animals. There are two suborders in the artiodactyl order: ruminants and non-ruminants. So, ruminants have a four-chambered stomach, and most have horns (for example, a giraffe). So, if there are horns, it is a ruminant. The student immediately came up with the phrase: “If you are a chewer, you are also a horner!” Funny!
6. Demanding detailed check of the quality of mastering the material with the result displayed as a percentage.
I am demanding and strict. The Unified State Exam is a big responsibility. Systematic, thorough preparation of homework is required. I evaluate the student's oral responses by special system. Any answer can be structured, divided into parts and the result converted into percentages. I give a lot written works with difficult tests, assignments, tasks that the student must do in front of me for assessment.
I also look at how the student answers standard Unified State Exam tests from independent computer programs, where the programs themselves assign a rating. At the same time, each student is an individual for whom I have individual program and its own learning speed. The statistics are as follows: testing knowledge and practicing reproduction gives a significant increase in the quality of the student’s knowledge and increasingly guarantees success. Successful results increase confidence and instill a love for the subject. The whole process becomes easy and a pleasure, especially when you master huge sections of biology.
