Summer, hot. It's time to relax and enjoy the sun's rays, take sunbathing. Moreover, white porcelain skin was considered beautiful before, and today tanned skin is considered attractive, especially since tanning helps hide minor skin defects, makes it smoother and reduces the number of acne. Therefore, on sunny days, you can happily devote an hour of time in the morning or evening to the sun’s rays, especially since, as you know, you should not abuse tanning, both natural and solar.

What is the advantage of sun tanning over a solarium?

  • Firstly, you get a tan in the sun for free, you don’t need to buy a subscription, just put on a swimsuit, take a blanket with you and go to the nearest park.
  • Secondly, any tan, like a sun tan, requires a temporary dosage of special cosmetics to avoid unwanted painful burns. But tanning in the sun allows you to simultaneously be somewhere in nature, rather than in a small booth.
  • Thirdly, tanning in the sun is very easy to combine with active activities, especially if you don’t like to lie for a long time and want to move, you can play volleyball or badminton; the process of sunbathing and swimming is very well combined. Needless to say, the sunbathing process can also be combined with weeding the beds in the country. So you can completely combine business with pleasure, especially since tanning is much better if you are constantly on the move.

The sun sets differently in different countries

If you still prefer to relax at sea, then you should know that at different latitudes, the tan will lie on your skin differently. A Turkish tan will be significantly different from an Egyptian tan.

So, if you want to get a golden tan, then it would be best to go to the Mediterranean Sea, and these are countries such as France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, Israel, Syria, Morocco, Turkey.

If you want to get a bronze tan, then it is best for you to prefer the coast of the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea. To do this, you should go to Greece, Turkey, Crimea, Abkhazia, Georgia, Romania or Bulgaria. Here, as on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, moderate skin protection will be sufficient and you should sunbathe either in the morning or after 16:00.

If you want to return from vacation with a chocolate tan, then it would be best to go closer to the equator, to Congo, Kenya, Uganda or Somalia, to the islands of Indonesia, to Ecuador. Brazil or Colombia. But here you should remember that you should start sunbathing for short periods, even minutes, and use powerful sunscreens.

And here You can get a dark coffee tan on the shores of the Indian Ocean. To do this, you should go to India or the Maldives. But here, as when traveling to the equator region, you need to limit your time in the sun and use highly protective creams, since if you get sunburned, the burn symptoms will appear more slowly.

And finally you can get a cinnamon-colored tan in the Persian Gulf and on the shores of the Red Sea. A tour to Egypt, Israel, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Iran, Bahrain is suitable for this. But even here you cannot do without thorough protection.

But before traveling to the south, it is best to sunbathe a little under the local sun's rays so that your skin is not too susceptible to the brighter sun. If you are going on vacation during the cold season, then first go to the solarium a couple of times.

Rules for tanning on the beach

When sunbathing on the beach, you should remember not only about your skin and the fact that it needs protection, but also your eyes and hair, which are no less susceptible to ultraviolet radiation. Hide your favorite hair under a Panama hat or hat, and your eyes behind sunglasses.

Also, don’t get too carried away with books and magazines, because after reading an interesting article, you may not notice how time has flown by and burn out, for this reason you shouldn’t sleep on the beach.

Moderation is important in everything, including tanning. Therefore, the tanning time should be gradually increased, gradually adding 10-20 minutes. This will allow you to get a beautiful, even tan.

How to get an even tan?

To get an even and beautiful tan, you should follow these rules:

  • When going to the beach, you should not apply perfume or other products containing alcohol to your skin, as they may leave stains on the skin.
  • It is best to sunbathe not while lying down, but while walking along the beach, in which case it will lie smoothly and beautifully on your skin.
  • After swimming, try to dry your skin; drops of water on the skin increase the activity of the sun's rays and the tan becomes uneven.
  • Sunscreens will be more effective if you keep them in a cool place.
  • Before going to the beach, your skin could benefit from a light scrub or peeling; it makes the skin smoother and tans better.
  • Eat more orange fruits and vegetables, peaches, apricots, carrots, peppers, they contain vitamin A, which affects the production of melanin, which is responsible for the beautiful shade of your skin.

How to get an even tan - reviews from forums

Rita

The first two or three days in Thailand, sunbathe in the morning until 10 o'clock and in the afternoon from 3 o'clock. At this time, the sun is more gentle. Always use sunscreen. Buy cream from well-known European brands with a protection level of at least “40”, and preferably “50”. If you sunbathe close to the water, on islands with light sand and emerald-clear water, apply a thick layer of cream. The fact is that white sand and clean and clear water tend to reflect ultraviolet radiation, and you tan (burn) doubly. Very often, tourists visiting the islands get sunburned. Never skimp on cream.
Upon returning from the beach, in the evening, treat your body with “after-shower lotions” or “...after sunbathing.” It is very good to use coconut oil after sunbathing. There are special coconut oils for massage or after sunbathing. The liquid contains natural coconut oil, skin moisturizer and vitamin E.

Anna

You can also drink tomato juice before going out into the sun. It contains a substance - lutein, which promotes the production of melanin (in fact, the substance that promotes tanning). My grandmother also recommended always drinking apple juice to get an even tan, and less regular water.
I have very fair skin that burns quickly in the sun, literally in a couple of hours. Then I can walk all red for 1.5 weeks. So this is what I have been doing for the last few years! For the first 3-4 days I use sunscreen with SPF 35-40, very, very generously. I can stay in the sun all day, except from 14:00 to 16:00. For the next 2 days I use protection with SPF 15, and then SPF 8-10 is enough. As a result, during my vacation I get the most even tan, without any hint of burning!

Alexandra

There is also a cool Payot serum for an even tan. It must be used 10 days before the start of the vacation.

Two years ago I moved to a city by the sea. I was amazed by the even and rich tan of the locals, and I decided at all costs to learn how to tan like that too. At first, due to lack of knowledge of the technique, after tanning my skin turned red and peeled. I read a lot, practiced and learned how to tan correctly. I’ll talk about this in the article.

Why sunbathe?

First, let's figure out what a tan is and why we need it. Ultraviolet rays damage skin cells. To protect yourself from them, special cells - melanocytes - are activated in the skin. They produce the pigment melanin and use it to create a dark filter on the skin, which absorbs ultraviolet radiation and prevents it from entering the deeper layers of the skin. We call this filter tanning.

a person sheds dead skin during his life

The top layer of skin - the epidermis - can be damaged by prolonged exposure to the sun. In this case, the outer stratum corneum of dead skin flakes is replaced with new, living cells.

Tanning is a barrier, a protective reaction of the skin to ultraviolet radiation.

Vitamin D

One of the benefits of tanning is that it is a natural way to get vitamin D.

Vitamin D- a fat-soluble vitamin that helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus in the intestines. And these are strong teeth, nails, hair and bones. Vitamin D also activates the production of the happiness hormone - serotonin - so goodbye depression!

The benefits and harms of tanning

So is tanning harmful or beneficial? It's not the tan itself that's dangerous, but the process of getting it. First, the skin becomes inflamed from sunlight - it turns pink or red. If you immediately sunbathe for a long time, you can get a burn or even develop a blister.

A moderate tan is beneficial, but a burn is harmful. In the table we will look at how a tan and how a burn affects the body.

Comparison of the effects of tanning and burns on the body

A tan
Production of the hormone of happiness
Absorption of calcium and phosphorus
Tone and even skin color
Natural UV protection

Burn
Acceleration of the aging process
Risk of developing melanoma
Dry skin
Growth of age spots

There's a fine line between a tan and a burn, so try not to overexpose yourself to the sun.

You can't sunbathe:

  • with numerous moles on the body, especially large ones;
  • for skin diseases - psoriasis, hyperpigmentation, etc.;
  • for oncological diseases;
  • if relatives had melanomas;
  • after chemotherapy;
  • after taking antibiotics.

Preparing for tanning

To get an even and successful tan, you need to prepare in advance - determine your phototype, choose clothes and accessories, and prepare your body.

Phototype

There are four main phototypes. Try to clearly determine your photo type using the example of actresses from the TV series “Desperate Housewives”.

Type 1: Celtic. Blonde or red hair, light blue, green or gray eyes, milky and slightly pinkish skin. If they don’t sunbathe, they get burns in the form of red spots from short-term exposure to the sun. Marcia Cross as Bree Van de Kamp

Type 2: light-skinned European. Light brown hair, blue, green or gray eyes, ivory skin. They tan with difficulty and often get sunburned. Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo

Type 3: dark-skinned European. Brown or dark brown hair, brown eyes, café-au-lait skin. In the sun they get a slight burn, which then turns into an intense tan. Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis

Type 4: Mediterranean. Dark hair, dark brown eyes, dark skin tone. They tan easily without getting sunburn. Alfre Woodard as Betty Applewhite

Depending on the phototype, you can choose the required level of protection

Body preparation

Smooth skin - even tan. Before getting your first dose of sunbathing, take your favorite belongings or just an exfoliating glove and remove rough skin cells. I choose a simple and natural option - regular ground coffee.

My favorite scrub is coffee and a little shower gel. There is no need to rub the skin, gentle stroking is enough

Drink enough fluids. Keep a glass or bottle of water nearby to quench your thirst in a timely manner. There is no need to drink when you don't want to - it will do more harm than good.

There is no exact figure for how much water you need to drink per day. Regardless of the season. There is an approximate guideline - 30 ml of water per kilogram of body weight. At elevated temperatures outside, this level can increase to 33-35 ml per kilogram, but you shouldn’t get too hung up on that. If a person eats a lot of fruits and greens, he will need less water. How do you know if you're drinking enough? It's simple: lack of thirst and light or colorless urine.

Scrub the skin on your body before tanning - this will allow the tan to lie evenly, and do not forget about moisturizing

Sunscreens

Sunscreens - creams, sprays, oils - will help to avoid burns. They are divided by level of protection, skin type and place of application - for face, body, hair and so on. It is advisable to apply the product half an hour before going out into the sun - this way it will have time to be absorbed into the deep layers of the skin. Typically, they are applied every two to three hours and after each immersion in water. Exact instructions are indicated on the product label, be sure to read it - conditions for applying sunscreen may vary.

The most vulnerable places are the nose, shoulders and chest. It is better to lubricate them once every half hour.

Body

SPF (sun protection factor)- the main criterion when choosing a sunscreen. It helps to understand how many ultraviolet rays the product blocks, and accordingly, how much the risk of burns will be reduced. At the same time, it is impossible to calculate how long you can safely stay in the sun: the SPF indicator does not characterize time, but an increase in the skin’s resistance to burns. So, a cream with SPF 20 means that your skin is additionally protected by 20%.

In addition to the SPF level, when choosing a product, you should take into account the individual characteristics of the skin - sensitivity, oily or dry, tendency to allergies, degree of elasticity and other factors.

Ultraviolet rays are divided into three types:

Types A and B and protection from them falls on our shoulders: look for products on the shelves that say UVA and UVB - they will do the job.

Type C the most dangerous - the ozone layer protects from it.

For the first sunbathing sessions, use a cream with maximum protection and gradually reduce the SPF level

Vichy Ideal Soleil Spray SPF 50. Excellent for the first and second phototypes. Hypoallergenic, easy to apply, and at the same time cares for the correction of wrinkles, elasticity and radiance of the skin.

Uriage SPF 30 spray. Suitable for the second and, at first, third phototypes. The spray applies easier than cream, does not stick and leaves no residue. Waterproof and suitable for sensitive and allergy-prone skin.

Baraka 100% virgin Coconut Oil. Good for the third and fourth phototypes. Natural sun protection. Smells pleasant and softens the skin. It can be used to lubricate the body, lips, and hair. Does not leave a greasy sheen and is quickly absorbed. You can choose any brand of coconut oil, the main thing is that it is free of impurities and additives.

Face

Facial skin is more delicate and sensitive, so it also requires special care.

Sun block cream, SPF 45. Well suited for phototypes 1 and 2, especially for oily and problem skin. Waterproof, contains vitamins D and E.

Libre Derm SPF 15 sunscreen. For tanning it is suitable for phototypes 3 and 4, for everyday use - for everyone. The cream contains omega 3,6,9, natural ingredients and thermal water. Absorbs quickly and does not stick.

Don't forget about your headdress - a scarf, a Panama hat, a hat, a cap. It is very good if the headdress has sides - additional protection for the eyes and sensitive skin of the face.

Lips

To prevent dry lips, use lipstick with SPF.

Sunscreen lip balm Libre Derm SPF 15. Moisturizes lips evenly and does not clump. Gives a slight shine.

Hair

Since a common scenario for sunbathing is the beach and the sea, you need to protect your hair not only from the sun, but also from salt water. This is dealt with by special hair sprays, which are applied each time before immersion in water.

Don't forget to hide your hair under a hat so the sun doesn't burn it.

Cliven Spray Oil. The spray envelops the hair with a thin film, protecting it from ultraviolet radiation and extreme conditions such as salt water and dry wind.

The range of decorative and skincare cosmetics stores in my city is not very wide. Among the available ones, I chose Nivea sunscreens: good, but it could be better.

Leader in use, I take it to the beach. I find the spray easier and faster to apply than the cream.

I use it in the first days of tanning to avoid burns. Then I switch to a spray with a lower SPF.

I apply it from time to time after taking a shower. But if you don’t spend too much time under the sun, this cream is not so necessary.

I take the mini version of the sunshade when traveling, it’s convenient

Stands in the closet unnecessarily: the tan goes on well and quickly without an amplifier

It smells delicious and has a pleasant texture, but is quickly absorbed. You have to use it often, 7-8 times a day.

The Nivea sunscreen line smells pleasant and is very gentle on the skin. It does the job, but is sticky and leaves white marks. But the hygienic lipstick is very cool!

Select sunscreens according to your phototype and your individual parameters.
Don't neglect protection, and your skin will thank you with a beautiful, healthy tan.

Time for tanning

The best time for tanning is when the sun is not at its zenith. Namely, sunrise and sunset. At this time, the sun's rays fall at a low angle and are partially blocked by the atmosphere. This reduces the risk of sunburn.

before 11:00 and after 16:00 best time to tan

Don't get carried away, tan gradually. Start with ten minutes in the sun. For the next five days, add fifteen minutes to the duration. In five days - for another fifteen. With this regimen, it will take about three weeks for a full tan. Holders of the first phototype are recommended to reduce the listed periods by half.

Geography is also important: The closer you are to the equator, the higher the solar activity and, therefore, the higher the risk of getting a sunburn.

The sun burns not only on sunny days. The idea that you don’t need to protect your skin in cloudy weather is a misconception. Reflected rays can also cause serious consequences, so there is a risk of getting sunburned in the shade, in the water, and under a beach canopy. Still, to reduce sun exposure, sunbathe in the shade. Under cover, the skin experiences less stress.

A tan should be acquired gradually. Start small - 10 minutes to allow the skin to adapt. To avoid overexposure to the sun, set an alarm clock.

How to tan beautifully

For an even tan, lie down in the direction of the sun - it is not at all necessary to lie with your feet facing the water. After bathing, dry your skin. Water, like a lens, enhances sunlight and can lead to burns and inflammation.

It is advisable to alternate tanning days with rest days so that the skin has time to adapt. For an even tan, try to expose the back of your arms and legs to the sun - we use these areas less often, and therefore they are lighter than the outer ones. The outer sides will tan without it.

🐟 fish containing Omega-3 - salmon, salmon, mackerel and others;
🍅 red and orange fruits and vegetables - tomatoes, apricots, peppers, grapefruits and oranges, carrots;
🍫 dark chocolate;
🥦 cabbage - cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, any;
🌿 greens - dill, onions, parsley, spinach, arugula;
🍵 green or black loose leaf teas.

After-sun care

After swimming in the sea, take a cool shower to freshen up and remove any remaining salt water. You can add a mild cleanser, but plain water will do the job. Never rub your body with a washcloth - this can damage your already irritated skin. Steaming in the bathroom is also not the best time.

If the tan went well:

  • soak your skin with after-sun cream or care oil;
  • Apply a light moisturizer, gel or serum to your face.

Uriage Bariesun Soothing Cream After Sun. For facial skin dehydrated due to sun exposure. Soothes and provides a cooling effect, helps restore skin elasticity and softness.

There is no need to apply sour cream to the burnt area: it can dry out like a crust and harm the skin even more.

Even if you have a lot of experience, do not neglect after-sun products. Cooling creams and gels will soothe, moisturize the skin and prevent peeling.

Memo

  1. Tanning is a protective reaction of the skin to ultraviolet radiation.
  2. Pros of tanning: vitamin D, even skin tone.
  3. Disadvantages of tanning (burn): risk of developing melanoma, increased pigmentation, dryness and aging of the skin.
  4. There are four skin phototypes: light, medium, dark, dark. Determine yours to choose the right sunscreen.
  5. Before tanning, remove rough skin cells with a scrub.
  6. The best time for tanning is before 11:00 and after 16:00.
  7. Sunbathe according to the schedule and duration recommended for your phototype.
  8. Fish, vegetables, fruits and herbs are the best helpers for recovering from sunburn.

Most fair-skinned women dream of a vacation that will allow them to transform themselves. Namely, to replace the painful pallor of the skin with the bronze tint of an even tan. But often, instead of the desired bronze tint, girls get bright red skin and the appearance of fried chicken. In addition to this, the surface of the skin becomes painful, burns prevent you from sleeping normally and continuing to rest, and in the end everything is covered with the terrible spectacle of thin skin slipping. The spectacle is not for the faint of heart, as they say.

To avoid this, you need to follow some rules that will help you not burn in the sun, but get an even, beautiful tan.

How to prepare your skin for tanning

Before going to the sea or to a body of water for the first time this swimming season, you need to exfoliate your skin. Removing the dead flakes will allow the tan to lie more evenly on your skin. To do this, you can use professional products or use what you have in your home. Mix kefir with sugar, lemon juice and coffee. Apply the prepared mixture to the body and thoroughly wipe the skin with your hands. Lemon juice eats away dead skin particles. Sugar and coffee, like a brush, remove the dead layer. And kefir helps to moisturize and nourish the epidermis. Instead of all this, you can use a hard washcloth.

You should not do any major cosmetic procedures before sunbathing. Deep peeling, facial cleansing, pigmentation removal and other operations require complete protection from ultraviolet radiation for some time.

How to get an even and beautiful tan

  1. As soon as you set foot on the beach, don't rush into the open sun. Especially if this is your first tan after the winter season. The skin is still quite delicate and can acquire a bright red tint within half an hour. You need to get used to it gradually - 5 minutes in the morning on the first day, 10 minutes in the evening, 15 minutes in the morning on the second day, 20 minutes in the evening and so on. Subsequently, when the skin becomes a little tanned, you should not be in direct sunlight for more than an hour.
  2. As you know, you can only be in the sun in the morning and evening, when the sun's rays hit the ground at an oblique angle. Sunbathing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. is strictly prohibited—powerful ultraviolet rays can cause early aging of the epidermis and even skin cancer.
  3. Even though you want to get a tan, you should definitely use sunscreen. It will allow you to avoid burns and help your tan go on more evenly. Remember to apply sunscreen every two hours. If you swim in a pond, after water procedures you need to renew the layer of washed off cream, or use a waterproof cosmetic. When choosing sunscreen, pay attention to its SPF rating. It indicates the degree of UV protection. Typically, creams are produced with SPF from 10 to 50. Children, as well as people with fair skin and blue eyes, need the maximum degree of protection - 50.
  4. To get a good tan, the skin must be enriched with vitamins E and C. To do this, you need to eat more fruits and vegetables, drink green tea. It is very useful to drink a glass of carrot juice before a day spent at the beach.
  5. To prevent the nose and skin area under the eyes from burning and appearing particularly red, it is important to wear a hat, or better yet, a wide-brimmed hat.
  6. In the sun, and even more so in windy sea weather, it is very easy to chapped your lips. Use special hygienic lipsticks that will protect the delicate skin of your lips from the sun's rays.
  7. To get an even tan, you need to purchase an open swimsuit that does not leave a colorful pattern on the body. After all, such a tan is of little use - can you really wear an open dress with it? Maybe you have the opportunity to go to wild beaches and sunbathe naked?
  8. Under no circumstances should you fall asleep while sunbathing. In this case, you can forget about an even tan. In addition, such carelessness can lead to burns and sunstroke.
  9. Very often, many girls complain that their shoulders and back sunburn the most. But the stomach, chest and thighs remain without a bronze coating. But remember yourself on the beach - we run, swim, build sand castles so that our backs are more exposed to ultraviolet rays. To tan from all sides, move more and lie on a lounger on your back - facing the sun.
  10. If you have very white skin that instantly turns red, you need to tan in the shade. The shade scatters ultraviolet rays and only small portions of it reach the skin. This is the only option for such people to get a beautiful and even tan.
  11. If you want to get a more intense tan, you need to use a cream with a tingle effect. When applied to the skin, it promotes the production of more melanin, which makes your tan darker and more beautiful.

After sunbathing, do not forget about proper skin care. When you return from the beach, take a shower, but do not rub your skin with a washcloth - you can injure it. After this, apply a light moisturizer to your skin, preferably based on aloe extract. The juice of this plant will not only give the skin lost moisture, but also saturate it with micronutrients.

Speaking of tanning, I would like to consider all the alternative ways to get it.

To get a proper, beautiful and even tan in a solarium, you need to determine your skin type. This can be done by a tanning salon worker. Depending on the skin type, the time spent in the capsule is determined, as well as the frequency of visits to the solarium. Typically, beginners are recommended to have a session that lasts no more than 5 minutes. Over time, the duration of exposure to ultraviolet rays may increase to 15 minutes.

What is the schedule for visiting the solarium? You should not be exposed to UV rays more than once a day; this is even prescribed by law in some foreign countries. Therefore, not a single salon will accept you twice a day. It is best to take ultraviolet light every other day at first until the tan develops sufficiently. When your skin acquires a pleasant shade, you can visit the solarium once every two weeks to maintain your tan. And remember that any tingling or unnaturally hot sensation is a signal to complete the procedure. Be attentive to your body.

When visiting the solarium, do not forget to remove all jewelry and contact lenses. Make sure you have a swimsuit before entering the capsule. Make sure that the beauty salon staff offers you special glasses that protect your eyes from UV radiation. And, of course, before visiting the solarium, do not apply decorative cosmetics to your face; you can only use tanning products. To ensure that the tan in the capsule lies evenly, move your arms and legs slightly, change position. Do not press your chin to the grille, otherwise you will get a white spot in this place. Tilt your head back as far as possible.

A beautiful tan hides many skin imperfections - freckles, cellulite, stretch marks. In addition, clothes on a beautiful tanned body look much more beautiful and sexier. Tan, strive for perfection and look like summer!

Video: how to get an even tan

How to tan beautifully and properly at sea? We tell you how to choose a sunscreen, how much time to spend in the sun, how to prepare your skin for tanning and what to do in case of a burn - after all, you can get sunburned even on a cloudy day!

We always look forward to summer, and one of the reasons is sunbathing, the opportunity to bask in the sun and get a beautiful tan. Nowadays, many people can afford to vacation in hot countries at any time of the year, which means that the risks associated with prolonged exposure to the sun also increase.

It has been scientifically proven that the harm from solar radiation is greater than the benefit, so do not neglect the rules of safe tanning. We will talk about this in the article.

What is a tan?

Tanning is the darkening of skin color due to prolonged exposure to the sun. Under the influence of sunlight, the pigment melanin is produced - it gives it a dark shade. If you produce too much of it during your first exposure to the sun, then in the following days you will no longer darken to the shade you need.

Ultra-violet rays

UVA rays the longest and can penetrate glass and clouds. They do not leave burns, but are still dangerous. They cause an allergic reaction, provoke skin diseases and decreased immunity. It is these rays that are used in solarium lamps.

UVB rays shorter and more active in summer. It is from them that the skin turns red and you get burns. There are many consequences of such radiation: premature aging, destruction of skin cells, deterioration of blood vessels, and the risk of developing melanoma - a malignant tumor. Pigment spots may generally appear after a couple of years. Do not penetrate clouds, clouds and glass.

Short UVC rays do not reach the Earth - they are absorbed by the atmosphere.

Benefits of tanning

Ultraviolet radiation increases the level of the hormone serotonin, which causes a surge of energy and lifts your mood. Not just because you are on vacation by the sea - the improvement in the body's condition actually happens from the inside. The sun promotes the production of vitamin D in the body, and it is responsible for strong, healthy teeth and nails, and improves immunity. Tanning also has an aesthetic component - many people believe that pale skin looks sickly and not so attractive.

Map of sun activity levels in different countries

Solarium in front of the sea

Before going on vacation, many people are concerned about whether they need to go to a solarium to prepare for a trip to the sea.

A small portion of ultraviolet light will be useful before your vacation. This way you will avoid burns and immediately a large dose of ultraviolet radiation. This is especially true for residents of those latitudes where there is little of it, and there are much more than three gray winter months. Tan evenly on all sides in the solarium - and the sun will lie evenly on the sea. Do not overdo it! Artificial irradiation is strong and a lot of melanin is formed. After such “sun”, a beach tan simply won’t stick to you. If you bought a last-minute ticket and have a couple of days before your vacation, 1-2 trips to the salon will definitely do you good.

Danger. Tanning beds are unsafe due to UVA rays. Even when using sunscreen, the effect of the rays is not reduced - creams simply do not protect against this type of radiation. Oncologists are not against artificial ultraviolet radiation in moderation! Residents of northern areas need it “for mood” and vitamin D boost.

How much and when should you sunbathe?

The main rule is to tan gradually! In different countries, depending on your proximity to the equator and the time of year, the tan will be of different colors and will also apply differently to you.

Here is a diagram of how to properly sunbathe at sea. On the first day, spend no more than half an hour in the sun - 10-15 minutes before lunch and the same amount after. Increase the time by 10-15 minutes every day. But even at the end of your vacation, there is no point in sunbathing for more than 2-3 hours. The skin no longer produces melanin - you will not tan any more.

When is the best time to sunbathe? It is ideal to be in the sun before 11 and after 16 hours. During the day the sun is very active and will do more harm than good.

Where is the best place to sunbathe?

Doctors agree that it is ideal to sunbathe in the shade. During the first week of your vacation, it is not advisable to be in direct sunlight. Through the clouds the tan will lie softer and last longer.

The water reflects the sun's rays, so you'll burn faster on the shore. The same goes for snow! It reflects the sun just as well, so the possibility of getting sunburned in winter is not a myth at all.

Skin care after sunbathing

From prolonged exposure to sunlight, the skin becomes dry and the dead layer of the epidermis begins to peel off. There is no particular harm, but it causes discomfort. The most important care is moisturizing, as well as avoiding scrubs and hard washcloths in the first days.

Sunscreen and other products

How to tan beautifully at sea? It is important to choose the right sunscreen to avoid burns. The most popular types of products: cream, milk, spray, stick. Let's look at each of them.

  • Cream- the most popular form. The creams have a dense texture, which is good for dry skin, but not for oily skin. It applies poorly, takes a long time to absorb, leaving those same white streaks, but can be used as a base for makeup.
  • Fluid- light cream. Ideal for oily skin because it absorbs faster and has a lighter texture.
  • Milk- the most common type of protective agent for the skin of the body. Sometimes you come across 2 in 1 - suitable for the body and face.
  • Cosmetic oil rarely has a protection level higher than SPF 15–20, since its main task is to give the skin the maximum chocolate shade without damaging it. To make the effect even more noticeable, glitter, bronzer and other visual tanning enhancers are added to the oil.
  • Spray convenient for applying to the back and shoulder blades, but it is very difficult to distribute it evenly. You can get burned in those places where there is not enough of it. The advantage of face sprays is that they can be applied over makeup.
  • Stick- a small but convenient thing. It looks like a tube of chapstick. Suitable for small areas of skin - lips, ears, nose. Ears and lips burn in the sun no less than the neck or back, and the skin peels off just as painfully.

The products do not affect the speed of tanning; they only increase the safe time spent in the sun.

What does SPF stand for?

Abbreviation SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is translated as “sun protection factor”, and the number indicates the degree of protection - the higher, the greater it is. Almost any sunscreen only protects against UVB radiation.

You also need a different cream: in the first week, use a cream with SPF 50, then with SPF 30, and after two weeks you can use SPF 15.

  • SPF 50- the skin will receive only 1/50 of the total amount of sunlight - that's 2%. Protects against 98% ultraviolet radiation.
  • SPF 30- protects from 97% of rays, that is, 1/30 of the radiation will pass through.
  • SPF 25- gives a protection level of 96%.
  • SPF 15- from 93%.

There are creams with an SPF indicator of 70, 80 and even 100. You should not believe such numbers, because 98% of rays is the maximum from which a cream can protect.

In addition to the abbreviation SPF, you may come across the following designations:

  • UVA- the product blocks type A rays (the most dangerous). In Asian countries it is designated by the PA++ index (there can be up to four pluses).
  • PPD(Persistent Pigment Darkening) - degree of protection against UVA rays. The maximum degree is 42, but 8 will be enough.
  • Broad Spectrum- the cream protects against type A and B rays.

The components that should be contained in the cream are, at a minimum, vitamins C and E. Green tea extract and resveratrol will also be a good addition to the composition.

Previously, sunscreens were produced only for adults, maximum for children over three years old. Now you can find creams for children from six months to three years.

Cream is needed not only in summer

For residents of countries with high sun activity, protection is needed all year round. In Russia in autumn and early winter there is no point in it - there is almost no sun. And in winter, on clear frosty days, it’s really necessary to use cream! In spring, the sun is already becoming more active, and the cream will be very useful to you. It’s not for nothing that they say that people burn the most in late spring - the skin is not yet accustomed to the sun, and the radiation activity, on the contrary, is very high.

Choosing a cream according to your skin type

It is important to choose the right sunscreen. If you know your skin type, then everything is simple: look for a cream for dry, oily or sensitive skin. If not, see the composition of the cream:

  • dry skin needs maximum hydration, it will be provided by aloe, glycerin, hyaluronic acid;
  • Oily skin needs a cream with minerals and the label “non-comedogenic.”

Phototype

There are only six of them. The first two types are the most vulnerable. They need products with SPF 50 protection, while others need SPF 20-30. How to determine phototype?

  • I, Celtic: fair skin, blond or red hair, light eyes, freckles. It is better for such people not to sunbathe at all, because they burn instantly.
  • II, fair-skinned European: light hair and eyes, light skin, sometimes freckles. You can get a tan, but it's difficult.
  • III, Central European: dark brown, brown hair, gray or light brown eyes, these people are quite dark, but it is still easy to get sunburned. Tanning is normal on this type of skin.
  • IV, Mediterranean: dark hair, brown eyes, olive skin. They tan well and quickly.
  • V, Asian: very dark hair and eyes, brown or yellowish skin. They burn very rarely.
  • VI, African: black hair and eyes, dark skin. Such people do not get sunburned at all (but this does not mean that they do not need sun protection).

How to use the funds

  • Sunscreen is applied 20 minutes before going out into the sun. This way it has time to absorb and protect the deep layers of the skin. It is ideal to apply the cream in two layers. The second - after the first has completely dried.
  • You need to renew the cream every two hours or follow the instructions for it. For example, many creams need to be reapplied after every bath.
  • Contrary to popular belief, there is no significant difference between protection factors of 15 and 50.
  • How much cream should I apply? In simple terms: about a quarter of a teaspoon for the face and a tablespoon for each part of the body.
  • It is also important to wash off the cream after exposure to the sun, otherwise you may get an allergic reaction.

Myths about tanning

  1. Glass and clouds protect from sunlight. No, glass acts like sun cream, blocking not all rays (does not block UVA). Therefore, it is quite possible to get sunburned while sitting by the window on the bus! The same applies to clouds: it’s even easier to get sunburned on a cloudy day because we lose our vigilance.
  2. Vitamin D can only be obtained through tanning. No, it is found in many products. For example, in eggs, dairy products and fish.
  3. The sun heals the skin of the face. No, it can only dry out the skin a little, but you will not achieve a complete treatment for, say, acne.
  4. In windy weather the skin does not burn. In fact, windy, cool weather is just as dangerous, despite the lack of sweltering heat. A chapped face burns even faster as the skin suffers from cold blasts.
  5. Makeup primer can protect against burns. Maybe. But you will have to apply it in at least 7 layers to get the protection factor indicated on the package.

10 myths about the sun and tanning

What to do if you have a sunburn

What to do if you get a sunburn? I am sharing my own experience.

  • Drink plenty of water to restore balance. Drink milk and fermented milk products, apply kefir and sour cream to burnt areas of the skin.
  • Take allergy pills: Loratadine, Suprastin, Diazolin according to the instructions. For what? Saves from swelling if your face burns.
  • Apply Panthenol, Boro+, and before going outside, apply protective cream;
  • Move a lot - for oxygen exchange and reduce swelling.

And, of course, it is important to reduce exposure to the sun to a minimum, ideally not to be outside. I was saved by three days of traveling by car; there was almost nowhere to go, and by the time I returned home the burns had almost disappeared.

An even, beautiful tan is the dream of many women, because thanks to it, skin imperfections become less noticeable, and your figure looks slimmer, making you feel more attractive and desirable. During the summer holidays, getting a tan becomes more accessible, especially if you have the opportunity to relax outside the city near a body of water.

Unfortunately, not everyone and does not always have enough time to get a seductive bronze tan without harming the skin. However, there is a quick way to tan in the sun, and for this it is not necessary to use expensive activator creams, but just follow a number of simple recommendations and use available products. How you can tan very quickly and beautifully in the sun without creams, using folk remedies, we will consider further.

How to tan properly and quickly in the sun?

As you know, the skin acquires a golden tan due to the activation of the production of melanin pigment under the influence of sunlight. It takes some time for melanin to be produced, so it is impossible to achieve a tan in one day, and if there is insufficient production of this pigment, the risk of sunburn increases. You can stimulate the production of melanin by eating foods that contain certain amino acids, enzymes and vitamins involved in the processes of its synthesis. These products include:

  • carrot;
  • apricots;
  • peaches;
  • tomatoes;
  • bananas;
  • watermelon;
  • liver;
  • nuts;
  • lean fish and seafood;
  • green tea, etc.

Thus, to help your skin tan faster, you should adjust your diet in advance by introducing the above products in larger quantities. At the same time, you need to avoid foods that, on the contrary, reduce melanin levels:

  • chocolate;
  • strong coffee;
  • citrus;
  • smoked meats;
  • pickles;
  • alcoholic drinks.

An important point for getting a beautiful and quick tan is preparing the skin. Namely, it should be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and dead cells that interfere with the penetration of ultraviolet rays. To do this, it is recommended to exfoliate 2-3 days before sunbathing, for which you can use homemade recipes based on ground coffee, sugar, salt, apricot kernels, etc. After using the scrub, the skin should be moisturized with creams.

In order not to reduce all your intentions to get a beautiful tan to zero, you should especially control the duration of your stay in the open sun on the first day of rest. To begin with, it is enough to sunbathe for only 10-20 minutes, and in the following days gradually increase the time spent on the beach. It should be noted that a tan “lays down” best if you are on the move, so beach volleyball will come in handy for those who want to tan quickly and evenly. It is also important to follow these rules:

  1. Avoid using cosmetics on the beach.
  2. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  3. Drink plenty of fluids on the beach (preferably clean, still water).

And finally, here are a few folk remedies that will help you get a gorgeous tan faster:

  1. Strong chilled coffee - this should be wiped over the skin twice a day using a large cotton swab.
  2. Olive oil with iodine (add 5 drops of iodine to 100 ml of oil) - lubricate the skin with this mixture before going to the beach.
  3. , combined with a small amount of olive oil, this product should be applied evenly to the skin before bed to enhance the intensity of the tan.
