The Unified State Exam requires passing two compulsory subjects and 1 or more additional ones. As practice shows, an appeal regarding failure to pass does not lead to a positive result, but in case of dissatisfaction with receiving a lower score, the likelihood of it changing after an appeal is quite high. Where to go if you haven’t passed the Unified State Exam and is it possible?
Apply without the Unified State Exam It is not possible to enter a higher educational institution after the 11th grade. Exceptions may include foreign citizens, children with disabilities, and those who have secondary or higher education.

But, if you are going to receive a complete higher education, then you need to make a decision in favor of our technical school, since we cooperate with many universities, and after completing the educational process you will be able to enter the university without the Unified State Exam. You will be able to study at college according to a shortened program in your chosen specialty, without passing the Unified State Exam based on a diploma. 
Even if you do not plan to obtain a diploma of the highest category, nevertheless, as practice shows, 90% of graduates sooner or later return to their roots and enter a university. There are a sufficient number of reasons for this, one of the main ones is advanced training for subsequent promotion. Therefore, it is better to immediately think about applying on such favorable terms and resolve the issue.
It’s quite easy to enroll in college after 9th grade, if only for the reason that you don’t have to take the Unified State Exam. After graduation, a student who has expressed a desire to continue studying at a higher education institution passes only entrance exams using a simplified system, and if the college is under the auspices of a university, then it is possible to enroll without passing it - this depends directly on the higher educational institution itself. There is an alternative - admission to a foreign university. It is known that the Unified State Exam is currently held only in Russia and Ukraine. There is an opportunity to retake.
In order to obtain a satisfactory result, the student must score a certain number of points in subjects that are considered mandatory for passing. Until now, there were two such subjects: Russian language and mathematics; there is every reason to believe that in the current academic year they will be supplemented by composition or, for students with disabilities, presentation.
The minimum number of points in mathematics for several years in a row was 24. But last year the exam results turned out to be much worse than in previous years, and the minimum score was lowered to 20. In the Russian language, the minimum score is 36. Let's say a major problem happened: a student failed score the minimum number of points based on the results of one exam. He will have the opportunity to retake this subject in the same year in additional time.
So, who can retake the Unified State Exam in extra time, but still in the current year?
- A graduate who is graduating from school this year and has already taken the Unified State Exam, but did not achieve the minimum score required for a positive result in one of the mandatory exams.
- A student who missed one of the required exams, but has valid reasons for which he has the appropriate documents to confirm. What reasons will be considered valid?
- A student who was unable to complete the exam, but had a good reason for this, and can also document its existence.
- A graduate whose examination results were canceled by the state examination commission in accordance with the provisions of the legislation of the Russian Federation.
The student’s illness, if there is a corresponding certificate from a medical institution;
Final exams at college or technical school;
Family circumstances, the presence of which is also evidenced by documents;
Documented reasons of a religious nature;
Study abroad and receive complete secondary education outside the Russian Federation.
In order for these categories of students to be allowed to take the exam in additional time, but still in the current year, they must submit an application to the local education authority as soon as possible (usually before July 5, but a more precise date must be checked with the department of education). And attach to the application documents proving a valid reason for the need to retake. Only then will the student be assigned another day to take the exam, from those indicated in the unified Unified State Exam schedule.
If you fail, you will have to come back in a year.
So, a student can retake one required exam, but only once. It also happens that the minimum scores were not scored in two compulsory subjects at once. Well, in this case, the student does not receive the right to retake the exam this year, and he will have to retake the exams only next year, along with the graduates who will graduate in a year. This student will not receive either a certificate or a certificate of passing the Unified State Exam this year. Let's file an appeal
Immediately after the exam, the student can file an appeal if he believes that he did not pass the exam well enough due to violations in the procedure for conducting it. Usually the appeal is reviewed within two to three days, and then the result is sent to the school.
If the appeal is successful, the assessment will be cancelled. In this case, the student will have a chance to retake the exam on an additional day. If the outcome is favorable, the conflict commission may add no more than two points to the score. If a student does not agree with the commission’s conclusions, he can appeal to a higher level authority - the city conflict commission. There, if the decision is favorable, you can add no more than 8 points to the score, although the review period will be approximately 10 days. When filing an appeal, you need to keep in mind that it can either increase the score, leave it unchanged, or even reduce it.
Alternative options
So, we have decided on the timing of the possible transfer. What to do next? The most important thing is not to panic. A way out can always be found. For example, you can go the other way and spend the whole year preparing.
How to prepare? There are quite a lot of options: you can study on your own, you can find a tutor who prepares you specifically for passing the Unified State Exam, or you can attend special preparation courses. Today, there are a number of organizations offering fast and high-quality training.
Many universities open preparatory courses that focus on preparing for the Unified State Exam. In addition, in the process of studying there, teachers try to remove the difference between the curriculum of a high school and an institute. Preparation in a regular school does not allow you to master the material that is offered in the first year at the university. Preparatory courses successfully solve this problem.
You can avoid wasting a whole year waiting for a retake, and get secondary specialized education remotely by enrolling in a university through a college program. This alternative solution has advantages:
- You can enroll in college remotely without presenting USE results;
- during the training process you can receive two diplomas at once: first a secondary vocational education, and then a higher vocational education;
- After just two years of college, you can enter a university if you have good academic results.

“I know that it’s my own fault, but I have no idea what to do now. It’s good that it’s still too early to join the army, I’ll now prepare for the retake,” Yuri says with regret.
This year, graduates received a certificate only if they passed the Unified State Exam in Russian with at least 31 points and the Unified State Exam in Mathematics with at least 21 points. If one of these exams is not passed, a certificate of secondary education will be issued only next year, and then only upon successful passing of the unified state exam.
1. Become a free listener
How to pass the Unified State Exam in a year if it didn’t work out? You can prepare on your own, or with tutors. But successfully passing the Unified State Exam does not mean that you can enroll without problems. That is why many universities organize preparatory courses in preparation for the Unified State Exam.
“Courses are created not only so that a child can successfully pass the Unified State Exam. The main emphasis is on eliminating the difference between the school and university programs,” said the head of the press service of MSTU. N. E. Bauman Irina Abramova. — In the first year, students with simple school preparation are not able to master the material that the university offers. The preparatory department solves this problem.”
Training periods and prices are different everywhere. For example, at the Moscow State Law Academy named after O. E. Kutafin there are four-month and eight-month courses. “Preparation in the courses is carried out not only for the Unified State Exam, but also for an additional profile-oriented test. Specifically, preparation for the Unified State Exam is carried out in three subjects: Russian language, Russian history, social studies, and it is also possible in English,” said the acting director. Director of the Academy's Pre-University Training Center Irina Zubova.
“At the Russian State University for the Humanities, in the Center for Pre-University Training, there are two-year courses for the duration of the student’s studies in grades 10-11, and 8-month courses for 11th graders. In addition, we conduct rehearsal exams in almost all subjects. Registration for participation has been open since October. The applicant can also receive counseling, including psychological counseling,” Mikhail Netsatunyan, director of the center, told Trud.
For those who are far from Moscow, distance training courses in basic subjects have been running for three years: history, Russian, English, mathematics. First, the student is given factual material, then a test on the section. At the end of the training, everyone has the opportunity to test their knowledge in general testing.
2. Go abroad
A certificate of completion is indeed required in all universities in the country, but only in ours. Therefore, you should not forget about the option of going to study in Europe or America.
True, you will need to spend more time there: school leaving certificates in Russia are not recognized in almost any country, even though Russia has joined the European Convention on the Mutual Recognition of Documents.
So first compulsory college, and only then university. In general, the same 4-6 years come out.
“I graduated from a university in London, and it was compulsory for us to go to college, because English children study at school for 11 years, and we study for 10,” former student Alexey tells Trud.
A document confirming graduation from school is required, but what it will be - a certificate or a certificate - is not always important. All the same, you will have to adapt to the program of the country in which you want to study, and the Unified State Exam is definitely not conducted there.
In some countries, for example in the Czech Republic, you will have to confirm your complete secondary education by passing 2-3 exams under the auspices of the country's education department.
3. Act like a ninth grader
Those who did not pass the Unified State Exam this year have an open path to college. To obtain secondary specialized education, you need a certificate not for the 11th grade, but for the 9th grade.
After graduating from several colleges, you can enter the third year of university. As we were informed by the admissions committee of the Moscow College of Mathematics, their graduates can both work in their specialty and receive higher education. Although, in order to enter the university for the third year, they will still have to write the Unified State Examination.
At MESI, to enroll in the third year of the university, it will be enough to pass the internal exam; the Unified State Exam will no longer be needed.
Third-year student of MOSA (Moscow Open Social Academy) Alexander spoke about the advantages of entering the academy after college. “It’s much easier to get used to a university or academy if you studied in college first,” says Alexander. “Besides, we didn’t take the Unified State Exam this year, only our specialty exams.”
However, it will still not be possible to save learning time everywhere. The duration of study in most colleges is 3 years 10 months; you will have to complete your studies at the university for another 3 years. It turns out that these guys will receive their diploma in 6 years anyway. But they have advantages: after graduating from college, they can work in their specialty.
4. Complete 3 years in 3 months
If you do not have a Unified State Examination certificate, you can find another alternative. Today, more and more often you can find offers to complete specialized courses, where on average in 3 months you will receive an interesting profession.
The choice of specialties here is no less than in higher and secondary educational institutions. Girls may be interested in the professions of a flight attendant or a manicurist, and for boys there are courses for electricians or landscape designers.
“It is possible to find a good job after completing a three-month course. It all depends on whether good specialists trained you, and on your own desire and determination,” said ex-director of the recruiting agency “Rekruter” Mark Levin. “I myself taught such courses for ten years. Trained advertising specialists. I can say for sure that sales specialists, after completing the courses, can find high-paying jobs.”
The main advantage of such training is short deadlines. Large centers of additional education are also engaged in the further employment of their students. In addition to the obvious advantages, there are also disadvantages. Most employers will give preference to an applicant with a university or college diploma. “Three-month specialist training courses are a useful thing. But you can only find a well-paid job with a salary of 25-30 thousand rubles if you have a diploma,” said Lidiya Khadzieva, executive director of the MainStaff International Recruiting Agency.
The centers are focused on the needs of employers, and many jobs require certain skills, such as knowledge of specialized programs, and the courses provide students with these skills. There are industries in which secondary or higher education is necessary; there are those where you can start with basic knowledge, which can be obtained in centers of additional education.
They take you even without a certificate
It turned out that without the Unified State Exam you can enter not only colleges, but also higher education institutions. The Trud correspondent decided to pose as an applicant who had failed her school exams.
So, according to the conditions of the experiment, we passed: mathematics - 19 points, Russian language - 56 points, history - 58 points and social studies - 64 points. With these results, instead of a certificate, the student receives a certificate of completion of school.
We contacted the admissions committees of some universities and asked if, with these results, we could enter the law school. The results of the call were commented on by specialists from the Russian State University for the Humanities.
IPI (Institute of Professional Innovation)
“If you do not have a certificate, then, of course, you will have to get one first. You can enroll in our external school. Over the course of a year, you will complete the 10-11th grade program and pass the Unified State Exam in the subjects that you need. At the same time, he will undergo training at our faculty of pre-university preparation, where he will master the first-year program. And after that, you can enroll in our second year if all exams are passed successfully. The cost of training in both places is 30,000 rubles. Or you can graduate from an external school, receive a certificate of secondary education and next year enter the first year of any other university.”

- This is profanation, this cannot happen, the university is simply making money, and in a not entirely legal way. Let's think logically: if a child has not passed the school program, then he does not have enough knowledge to enter a university. Without knowing the multiplication table, you cannot study algebra.
MIIT (Moscow State Transport University)
“You won’t be able to apply to us without a certificate,” MIIT immediately noted. - But you can try to enroll next year. We have preparatory courses where you can choose several subjects or just one - for which you need to retake the Unified State Exam. Thus, over the course of a year, knowledge will not be forgotten, but, on the contrary, will be strengthened. We don’t know yet what will happen this year, but in the past the Unified State Examination in mathematics was taken at our university. A one-year course in one subject costs 10,000 rubles.”
- This is legal and correct. The child will simply attend a training course. Moreover, it is important to understand what exactly to focus on. If this is the history of the fatherland, which is divided into periods, you need to find out for which period the graduate has problems, and this is the material to be given. The child will find it interesting and useful.
AMI (Academic International Institute)
Different operators gave different answers.
“You won’t be able to apply to us without a certificate. Take the Unified State Exam, come back next year,” the first one clarified the situation.

“The institute is recruiting for the so-called Unified State Exam preparation groups. The system of passing the Unified State Exam, which is both graduation from a secondary educational institution and an assessment point upon admission to a university, was introduced gradually in the Russian Federation, being introduced and improved in several stages. Since 2001, the Unified State Exam was introduced in some regions of the country; the system became mandatory throughout Russia by 2009.
Nowadays it is no longer possible to imagine entering a university without passing the Unified State Exam. But in life there are exceptional cases when a person, for some reason, wants to receive further education without passing the Unified State Exam. And the question of where you can go without the Unified State Exam is asked every year by more than a dozen young people in our country.
Reasons why the Unified State Exam result may be missing.
Unified State Exam results may be missing in the following cases:
- For citizens who received secondary education in another state. So if a foreigner asks the question where he can enroll without the Unified State Exam in the Russian Federation, the answer will be positive from almost any university. A foreign national can only provide the selected institution with a document confirming his graduation from a secondary educational institution in the country from which he came. - You graduated from a secondary educational institution before the introduction of the Unified State Exam, or a lot of time has passed since passing the Unified State Exam.
- Unfortunately, the human factor can also play a cruel joke - people who are late, overslept or too busy can also miss the opportunity to take the Unified State Exam.
- There are not enough points for admission based on the Unified State Examination results.
The lucky ones who don't have to take the Unified State Exam
These lucky ones include:
- Pupils of schools who successfully participated in all-Russian Olympiads and became winners. Such students will be admitted to any university without the Unified State Exam or other exams, but only on the basis of victory in such Olympiads.
- Students who took part and won in the Olympiad from the university. It is realistic to try to win such an Olympiad by thoroughly preparing for it in advance and knowing the conditions.
- Those wishing to have a second higher education are also exempt from the mandatory Unified State Examination. Such citizens must present a diploma from the first university and undergo testing or examination within the new one.
- Students admitted to a university on the basis of a transfer from another university or who have taken an academic leave and want to reinstate do not take the Unified State Exam.
Where can you go without the Unified State Exam? Foreign universities, for example, accept Russian citizens without the Unified State Exam. To do this, you need to clarify which exams are required to be passed on site at the selected university. Sometimes there is no need to take exams at all.
Come back next year, or even in two or three
There is, of course, the option of re-taking the exams in a year, if you don’t mind the time and are ready to carefully study textbooks and go to tutors during this year in order to pass the Unified State Exam. And in the breaks between the textbook and the repeater, you can start working and receive your first salary.
Another long-term option is to go to college or technical school, study there for two or three years and get a specialty, and then apply to a university. In order not to waste precious years, you can go to college and study in ninth grade.

Where can you apply with a certificate without the Unified State Exam?
What to do if the exams are passed, the certificate is received, but the passing grade for the university is not sufficient? There aren't many options here. Don’t forget the option of secondary vocational education. The doors of a technical school or college where you can enter without the Unified State Exam are always open for you. After graduating from these, you can enter a university.
If you still would like to get a “higher education” without wasting a year on secondary vocational education, it is worth considering universities where you can enroll without the Unified State Exam in absentia or remotely. True, this option often involves paid education.
You can also consider creative professions. Fortunately, in creative faculties they pay little attention to the number of points scored, and to enter them you need to pass creative exams, you just need to show talent.
Mathematics is the queen of sciences
Mathematics is an important subject when passing the Unified State Exam. Since 2015, it has also been divided into 2 levels - basic mathematics and specialized mathematics. That is, if a student plans to enter a faculty where mathematics is a compulsory subject, then he needs to choose specialized mathematics. Basic mathematics is a little easier to pass, but it is not taken into account when entering a university and is only required when receiving a graduation certificate.
If you have a humanitarian mindset and the exact sciences are not quite for you, then in this case it is better to choose the basic level of mathematics. There are plenty of liberal arts universities in our country where you can enroll without the Unified State Exam in specialized mathematics. However, it should be remembered that in some regions the university will take two exams, and upon admission you will need to pass an internal exam at the educational institution.
Universities where you can enter without the Unified State Exam
Of course, such institutions are primarily all theatrical, vocal, artistic and humanitarian institutions. We list those specializations for which admission is not required to pass exams, or there is no Unified State Examination for the specialized level of mathematics:

STRESS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
The hysteria around the Unified State Exam is now colossal. The exam is criticized by everyone: it is both too difficult and too simple, and everyone is writing it off, and the security measures are draconian.
No matter where you spit, everything is wrong! Got a hundred points? So this exam was easy! Got 20? I'm a fool myself, I should have studied better. Got caught with a cheat sheet - even more so! And no matter what grade the child receives, there will always be a reason to worry.
Even when the exam has already been passed, the graduate experiences enormous stress, Mikhail Sergeevich is sure. “Everyone has their own expectations regarding his result - parents, teachers, himself, in the end. And when these expectations do not coincide with the results, the student experiences disappointment and anger. This anger can be directed at oneself, at parents - they did not support, or at school - they did not teach.
Parents, by the way, have their own reason for dissatisfaction. So much money was spent on tutors - and all in vain, or what?
It is important for parents to capture this feeling: I have invested so much in your studies, but it turns out that everything has gone nowhere,” notes Mikhail Zotov. - It is doubly difficult for a child in such a situation: he himself is upset by his lack of success, even if he does not show it.
