A free program that creates a cute Christmas tree on your computer desktop.

New Year is just around the corner! Despite the fact that the weather (at least here) is not at all like New Year's, the spirit of the approaching holidays is still felt. There are already garlands, balls, rain hanging in all the windows and, of course, there are Christmas trees everywhere! The latter, perhaps, are the main symbols of the New Year. Surely, every year you dress up forest beauties, who with their appearance give you joy during all the New Year holidays.

However, many today spend most of their time at the computer and, accordingly, do not have the opportunity to see their decorated Christmas tree. Therefore, I want to dedicate today’s article specifically to those who lack the feeling of a holiday in the Workplace.

Today we will start decorating the desktop of our computer for the New Year. And the first (and even most important) thing we need is, of course, to put a Christmas tree on it. Like the real one, it should be beautifully decorated with colorful balls, toys and garlands. We can get exactly such a Christmas tree by installing the program on our PC ChristmasTree. Naturally, there are quite a lot of similar applications, but from analogues ChristmasTree It features a large number of skins, settings, and most importantly, the presence of a timer that counts down the time until the holidays! The program's closest competitor is another free application Animated Christmas Tree for Desktop:

Comparison of the ChristmasTree program with its paid analogue Animated Christmas Tree for Desktop

The only thing the program is missing is ChristmasTree, so this is the ability to adjust the transparency of the Christmas tree on the Desktop. However, despite this, it has several ready-made translucent skins (for example, standard).

Installing the ChristmasTree program

To install a virtual Christmas tree on your desktop, you will need to run the file from the downloaded archive ChristmasTree17.exe and follow the wizard’s prompts, and in fact confirm all the installer’s suggestions by clicking the button "Next" ;).

Launching and working with the program

Once the installation is complete, this translucent Christmas tree will appear on your desktop:

Under the tree there is a timer, which by default counts down until Catholic Christmas (December 25). Since we are used to celebrating not Christmas, but New Year, the first thing we will do is reconfigure the timer. To do this, right-click to call up the context menu of our tree and in the section "Due Date" note the point "New Year":

Customizing the appearance of the Christmas tree

Now you can start setting up the tree itself. To do this, just go to the context menu again and in the section "Skins" choose one of the options for the appearance of our Christmas tree (although balls and even New Year's socks are also available here :)):

In the same section, pay attention to the very bottom point: "Edit skin font...". With it, you can enter the menu for setting the appearance of the program timer and adjust the type and color of its font.

Setting up the sound

The final touch of customization ChristmasTree There will be a choice of sound. The program allows you to play a piece of music of your choice every hour or half hour (three options are available). To configure it, use the context menu ChristmasTree go to section "Sounds":

Here the menu is divided into two parts: in the upper part the frequency of playback of a musical fragment is indicated (every hour/half an hour/never), and in the lower part the sound theme itself is selected.

Installing a garland

The decoration of the Desktop could be completed at this point, but we will not stop there! What's a holiday without sparkling garlands? Well, for example, at least these:

Do you want such a garland to appear at the top of your monitor? Then unzip the folder to your desktop Holiday Lights from the downloaded archive! Since the program was written back in the days of Windows 95, unpacking it to the Desktop is the main requirement. Otherwise, the application will not start and will generate an error!

Despite some seemingly primitive Holiday Lights still has a sufficient number of different settings. You can call them by left-clicking on the program icon in the system tray or from its context menu (item "Options"):

Installing a garland

So that you don’t get lost in the numerous English-language settings, I specifically marked the key parameters in the screenshot. So:

  1. First of all (number “1” on the screen) we select the type of light bulbs. Standard snowflakes didn’t seem like a very good choice to me, so I advise you to install the skin "Normal". Under the “Bulbs” list, I also advise you to remove the burnout effect (checkbox "Burn Out"), then all the “light bulbs” will be working.
  2. The next step is to set the “light bulbs” switching mode (section "Flashing Mode" under number "2"). I can’t give universal advice here. For example, I liked the “Random” (random flickering) and “Alternating” (“running” lights) modes most of all.
  3. The third step is to set the colors of the light bulbs (section "Color" under number "3"). Here I advise you to choose either “Random” or “MultiColor”, based on the principle “the more (more colorful;)) - the better”!
  4. Now all that remains is to apply all the changes. To do this, press the button "Apply" and admire the result.

Additionally, you can configure flashing speed“light bulbs” (section “Flash Rate”), startup(checkbox “Startup Options”), etc.

You can also set background music, although only in MIDI format. To do this, you need to place a file with your favorite melody in the folder with the program. Then in the section "Music" activate checkbox "Play Music" and select the composition you added from the list below. You can download MIDI in a wide range, for example, .

Snowfall on desktop

The final touch in creating a New Year's mood for your Desktop will be launching the program from the downloaded archive Snow.exe. This application does not have any settings, but only one window with information about the name and author-developer.

Thanks to this program, “real” snow will begin to fall on your desktop, which will gradually “cover” all interface elements. To stop the snowfall, just close the window Snow.

Now you can look at the results of our efforts:

To heighten the effect, of course, you can change the background image of your desktop to something New Year's. You can download beautiful New Year wallpapers, for example.

I hope that after all the simple manipulations I described above, the New Year’s mood will still come to you and will not leave you until the end of all the holidays! Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to everyone!

Programs for decorating your Windows desktop for the New Year

Today, many of us look at the monitor screen not much less often than out the window. Therefore, decorating your virtual space can serve as an excellent way to create a New Year's mood. Especially if the view from the window is not pleasing.

Using the programs listed here, you can decorate your Windows desktop with sparkling garlands, fluffy snow, a New Year tree and other holiday attributes.

Let us just note that with certain settings, programs for depicting snow on the desktop can create a significant load on the computer’s computing resources. In these cases, before launching demanding applications, such as games, it is recommended to disable such programs.

Our program! A comprehensive solution - a whole set of New Year's decorations for Windows. Includes various types of electric lights and snow; background sounds of a fireplace and a snowstorm; popular New Year's melodies, played, if desired, when the program starts and every hour; and, of course, Christmas trees with blinking lights. Everything can be customized to your liking. It will also help you find holiday background images.

In general, with the initially installed settings, the program should launch and work on all modern (and not so modern) computers, including low-power ones. The most demanding component of a computer's computing power is " Snow" Therefore, on computers with low performance, before launching demanding games such as games, it is recommended to disable snow (Settings > Snow > Enable). For snow, the main parameter for influencing processor load is “ Density" The thicker the snow, the greater the load on the processor. Therefore, it is recommended to handle this setting with particular care. Other components of the program, including garlands, should not have any significant impact on the processor load.

There is a Russian language.

Snow for Windows

Decorate your desktop with fluffy snow. In addition, it can add animated images of Santa on a sled and a polar bear, and several Christmas trees to the screen.

A very interesting feature of the application is the accumulation of fallen snow. And if the computer stands idle for some time, then snowdrifts form at the bottom of the screen and on open windows.

Snow for Windows settings are very extensive and, by modern standards, even look a little intimidating to the user. But there is no need to be afraid. The default program is quite well configured and if you don’t want to understand the intricacies, then there is no need to go into the settings. And if you still want to delve into the settings, then be careful with the parameters that determine the amount of snow and “CPU usage”, since too large values can have a noticeable impact on the processor load. Also, on low-performance computers, before running demanding applications such as games, it may make sense to temporarily disable Snow for Windows.

The program is paid, but since it is very old (the last update was in 2003), you can no longer buy it - the link does not work. Therefore, we can either limit ourselves to a trial period of 10 days, which may be enough for the holidays. Or, given that the program is no longer sold anyway, then there probably won’t be anything wrong with searching the Internet for registration data and using them. You decide.

Language is English only.

Download Snow for Windows

Another tool for causing snow on the Windows desktop.

Free, small size, no installation required.

Like other snowfall apps, DesktopSnowOK can have a significant impact on CPU usage, especially when the Snowflake Count setting is high.

Can display a variety of garlands around the edges of the screen, play holiday music, and serve as a screen saver.

As with Snow for Windows, the program is quite old, paid and no longer sold. And, just as in the previous case, you can limit yourself to a trial period. But unlike Snow for Windows, for those who bought the program before, the developers have made publicly available the data (name and serial number) for registering the program ;)

Language is English only.

Download Holiday Lights

It is similar to the previous program, but in addition to light bulbs, music and a screensaver, it also includes desktop wallpaper and a calendar.

Also a paid and no longer supported product. Free trial period - 15 days. Further options are the same as in the case of Snow for Windows.

Language is English only.

Christmas tree

3D animated Christmas tree. You can add a dog and a carpet to the composition. Also, the settings allow you to enable image rotation, change size, transparency and some other parameters.

When running, the program creates a heavy load on the computer's computing power, which can significantly slow down the system.

No installation is required, just unpack and run the ProTree.exe executable file from the archive. Control is carried out through a menu called up by right-clicking on the image. For information on how to remove the program and some questions about its use, read the help - the ReadMe.pdf file from the archive.
