Student at this university: Sap, TA. The time has come to uncover my favorite (no) university - Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.
Most likely, those who have already thought about enrolling have heard many beautiful phrases from officials and students of this institution. “The locomotive of the Russian oil and gas industry”, “95% employment”, “We are direct competitors of Moscow State University”, that’s all. In this regard, a perverted picture could have formed in our heads about the most rosy state of affairs in this educational institution. Let me tell you: this is not so. Today's kerosene stove is, in general, a gray and average university, which should not be perceived as an option for those who really want to get a quality education.
The preamble is finished, let's move on point by point.
0. Humanities majors - immediately out. Multiply everything that you read further by two times and you will see all the economists, mebs, lawyers, etc. IMHO, if you don’t have the right relatives, then it’s better to immediately mark these faculties as marked with poison and walk around a kilometer away.
1. The learning process. He looks strange to say the least. The first two courses are a kind of hodgepodge of a variety of subjects taught in the form of an introductory course. Physics, chemistry (org-inorg), ecology, strength of materials, electrical engineering, some technical engineering, etc., and that’s all - regardless of specialty. The amount of knowledge gained is extremely small, theoretical and in practice (industrial or scientific), by and large, inapplicable + subjects are constantly being cut in hours. And teachers, in general, don’t really want to explain anything to students; basically, they just boringly lecture their material, and then just as boringly take the exam, giving A’s to most of them. Actually, these two years are the 11th grade of school, spread out into two.
The 3rd and 4th courses are more fun, the special subjects actually begin. It seems to be fun, excitement, student life - but what the hell. Most people are already neglecting their studies at this time, not going to classes AT ALL, using the principle “the grades work for you.” The teachers couldn’t be more loyal, the presentation of the material is the same. Oh yes, and physical education for three whole years, which you’ll miss out on. Some smarter people find a niche in scientific and social activities, some work, some play Dota. But everyone has the same exit after graduation, because:
2. Employment. The only truth in the words of the rector and other big shots is the high percentage of employed people. But where? Don’t expect that you will be immediately accepted with open arms to work in Maaaaskvu, in a candle to Nametkin. Most likely, with the coveted title of “engineer,” you will be sent to work as a junior-level technician (read: operator) somewhere in the vast expanses (most likely to the North. If you haven’t seen bears, you will, bgg). And this deals a psychological blow: you spent 4 years teaching how to properly obtain lubricants from oil, and you, roughly speaking, are ordered to turn the valve and bring coffee. Salary is appropriate for the position. Some people work more during their student years (honor and praise to them) and go abroad, others come to their senses in time and transfer. But the majority work in rather dusty positions, for rather dusty money, and have no special prospects for growth.
3. Incorrectly about the student population. The university compares itself with Moscow State University, but it is difficult to imagine such a number of untalented, lazy, narrow-minded students, for example, at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. Thousands of them are simply engaged in procrastination, lazily doing something, bringing it to the last day. I already spoke about the system that allows them to stay afloat in paragraph 1. In general, you want to be less likely to encounter questions like “Are you the smartest one here?” - stay away from Leninsky, 65.
4. Bribes. It's simple here too. The whole system is completely rotten. At the university there is a carriage and a small cart of Anzorov, Akhmedov, Levonov, Arshakov, closing everything and everyone through the necessary connections. You can buy everything, from physical education tests to the Miss University competition. The attitude towards money is appropriate.
5. A point about dormitories. Plus: not so far from the university; don't pay so much; beautiful sports ground. Cons: 6 people in a 3-bed room for the entire first year; broken into trash; inadequate commanders; shortage of some vital items (chairs, tables and pillows). The general assessment is “it will work with beer” if beer does not select the student operational squad (yes, there is such a thing here).
6. General conclusions.
The spirit of anti-intellectualism has long reigned at the university, that is, those who have knowledge and a desire for development turn out to be alien to this peculiar spirituality and have to survive, unlike the stupid idiots who came to sit their pants, for whom 4 years fly by like (pick up a phrase yourself) . I’ll take the thought out of the preamble once again: stay away from this place if you want to get a normal education and get a normal job. Choose MIPT, Baumanka, Polytechnic, MEPhI, and even MISiS - but not this.
P.S. And looking at the oil price situation, there is another reason to think about coming here.

The university provides training in bachelor's, master's and postgraduate programs, provides admission in targeted areas, there are preparatory courses, postgraduate studies, doctoral studies and more than 250 programs of additional professional education. Students are trained in 23 areas of bachelor's training, 28 areas of master's training and 8 specialty areas. 15 areas of training of scientific and pedagogical personnel in graduate school are being implemented. 6 master's degree programs are being implemented jointly with foreign universities.

The university includes 12 faculties, a military training center, a campus of 5 multi-storey buildings with 4176 seats, as well as 2 branches (in Orenburg and Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan), 2 recreation centers in the Tver region and in Crimea. Since 2008, the rector has been Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Viktor Georgievich Martynov.

The total number of students including branches is more than 11,000 people. About 60% of students study at the expense of the federal budget in all forms of education. The university has more than 1,900 foreign students from 70 countries, including China, Vietnam, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus.

The university is part of a consortium created jointly by MIPT, MSU and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) with the participation of Gazprom Neft PJSC as a business partner. A similar form of integration also operates with the companies PJSC Lukoil and JSC Zarubezhneft.

Among the most important foreign partners of the university are universities and companies from Austria, France, Norway, China, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Bulgaria, and Poland.

The university is consistently among the leaders in the demand for graduates of Russian universities among employers according to the RA-Expert rating.
