Ember Guards app reviews

  • Way too hard, pay to play 1/5

As others have said, it’s extremely difficult and requires major patience or money to progress. When you can’t beat the tutorial levels without spending money, there’s no point in playing further. Only three tower types, instead of the usual 4-5, and they don’t always attack the first enemy within range. That's more bad programming. Needless to say it’s frustrating and boring to have to play the same map over and over. Good for an hour, then uninstall. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

  • Brutal 3/5

Brutal difficulty keeps this from scoring higher. Buy the $.99 starter pack and get a new hero. Not sure it is possible to progress past the first stage without it.

  • Ok 5/5

    By gooooood 👍

  • Mediocre with potential 2/5

Not the worst out there, but it isn't near the top. The art feels old. The gameplay is slow, and feels frustrating most of the time. There"s a lack of real tutorials, and sometimes it turns into hunting for information. I didn"t like it enough to play longer than a week.

  • Fun game 4/5

This game is addicting but simple.

  • Great TD game 5/5

Very enjoyable and a lot of challenging levels. Just wish you could fast forward when playing. Well worth a look

  • Won't download needed pack 1/5

    Fails to download

  • Waste of time 1/5

    Patch wont load.

  • Broken 1/5

    Game will not even start

  • Still can't even start the game 1/5

The required content update still won't start.

  • Can't download "content pack." 1/5

Even after the latest update, I can't download the "content pack" from 2 different WiFi networks.

  • Content pack error 1/5

    Can't download content pack.....

  • No down load 1/5

Why am I unable to download this product? Does not provoke a great deal of consumer confidence. T.W.

  • Won't start 1/5

    By Lightninggggg

Looks fun, but haven"t been able to play it. Every time I start it, it tells me it"s unable to download a content pack.

  • Good game 5/5

A little bit grindy, but nice

  • greed game 1/5

no money no way to pass through

  • Unbalanced 3/5

Ok tower defense. Unbalanced must pay money to make out higher levels. Good for a few days then delete.

  • Fun RPG TD 5/5

This game has in-depth RPG elements along with the traditional tower defense mechanics. The art style is very good and fun to watch. The game plays well and although to unlock everything may be a grind it doesn"t seem like it because the game is just fun to play. If they offer the $.99 starter pack it"s worth it and will jumpstart your adventure.

  • Terrible programming. 1/5

    By Ttttttapppppppp

Deleted this game within the first day. Towers do not target first enemies that go by on a regular basis. This is a basic function of tower defense games and they failed at it miserably. Huge let down of a game.

  • Good game 3/5

Fun but I can"t even get to the main menu as of a few days ago as it crashes. I hope they are working on a patch. iPad Pro

  • Too Difficult 3/5

The game has great potential but the first few levels are way too hard. Tutorial is too short. There is no way to track your money during a game so you know when you can upgrade towers. There is no Indication for how much longer the level is going to be, etc. graphics and concept is cool but they need to back off of the difficulty and make some improvements.

  • :/ 3/5

Highly polished TD game with great video/audio. Seems unnecessarily difficult even from the start. I want to buy the IAP, but it feels forced rather than "nice boost". Not sure I"ll bother keeping this gem.

Among our readers, most likely, there is not a single person who has never played games in the Tower Defense genre, where you need to build forts, towers and other similar structures to repel entire waves of enemies. The genre began to develop as mods for Warcraft and Age of Empires, and then grew into a separate gaming branch. Of course, Tower Defense games have migrated to mobile platforms, but they are not very diverse. A game Ember Guards, which will be discussed in this review, is designed to elevate this genre in the eyes of mobile gamers.

Ember Guards is an exciting game in the best traditions of the Tower Defense genre, which combines elements of the old school and new trends. The main emphasis in the game is on the dynamics of the gameplay, so you won’t be bored.

The story in Ember Guards revolves around an ancient artifact called “Ember”. This is a gem that, by its very presence, has given peace and prosperity to the kingdom. However, where there are good people who use the power of the stone for good, naturally, there are also those who want to destroy the whole world with its help. And one day one Dark Lord managed to kidnap “Ember”. To save the artifact, an ancient order is revived, whose name sounds like “Guardians of Amber.” Playing as one of the five representatives of this order, we, in fact, have to go on a dangerous journey full of battles, monsters and adventures.

Each of the five available heroes has unique spells that will help them cope with a lot of different enemies, and special mechanics that diversify the gameplay and will not let you get bored during the second and third playthroughs of the game. Besides three magical abilities available to heroes, you can build and develop towers. There are several types of defensive structures in the game, including forts that fire explosive shells, magic towers, etc.

As you progress through the game, you will be able to discover new types of towers, as well as improve existing ones. The money that is given for each level, which is this moment There are 15 pieces, you can invest in developing the firing range, damage or special functions of each tower.

The enemies in this game are not that simple either. Each of them is immune to certain types of attacks, spells and abilities. Some enemies are so strong that you can only penetrate them with the most powerful spells, and some are so fast that many towers do not even have time to fire. Therefore, you will have to use your strategic thinking to the fullest in order to tactically correctly place the towers on the map, as well as use the hero’s abilities in a timely manner. In addition, do not forget about the interactive environmental elements present at each level, which can also be used for your own purposes.

All this, of course, is good, but when the game also has nice 3D graphics, the epic boss battles look very impressive. And the voice acting of the game's heroes, performed by the professional DailySound team, only adds to the pleasant experience.

Ultimately Ember Guards are:

  • 5 unique heroes with a variety of spells and abilities
  • 15 colorful levels with multiple game modes
  • various defensive towers, with the ability to improve each of them
  • many enemies with their own characteristics
  • interactive environmental elements present at each level
  • artifacts that can be used in battle
  • exciting boss battles
  • good 3D graphics
  • excellent voice acting

So, during a year of development, HitRock studio managed to create a truly quality product. The game, by the way, is free and distributed under the free-to-play system. You can download Ember Guards.

Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the legend about brave heroes and witness an unexpected ending. The kingdom is waiting for its heroes!

Fantasy titles in the tower defense genre are confidently winning their place in the hearts of gamers thanks to simplified controls that conventional strategies cannot boast of. Ember Guards stands out among its peers in the genre not only for its high dynamics and excellent graphics, but also for the very professional voice acting that the characters have when casting spells, as well as in key game moments.

The plot of Ember Guards is based on the story of the ancient artifact Ember, which provided happy life to a distant kingdom, but was stolen by the great and terrible Dark Lord. And now the player is invited to help the ancient order Ember Guards, whose mission is to find and return the artifact and thereby save the kingdom.

The player will have to go through a difficult (really difficult!) path of 15 levels with several game modes. A path consisting of a continuous struggle with hordes of bloodthirsty enemies, each of which, moreover, is endowed with individual abilities. The trick of the gameplay is that you have to constantly do something to hold back the waves of the enemy - there are not many points for towers on the field, but the system for pumping them up is well developed. Well, there are a lot of magical abilities that you constantly have to use wisely in various points cards. At the same time, Ember Guards is simple and clear - it does not have any unnecessary bells and whistles that are of no use to a mobile game.
The game also features an interactive environment: clicking on one of the seemingly non-functional elements of the map can lead to various kinds effects. For example, to freeze enemies:

By the way, the game does not have a wave accelerator (without it there are enough worries) and there are no restraining units, so the use of cunning tactics is the key to winning the game.
The player has a choice between five heroes, each of whom is endowed with three magical abilities. For example, if you choose Warlock, Chains of Pain, Demon's Curse and Explosive Injection appear in your arsenal. All magical abilities can be developed for coins and crystals - two types of game currency that need to be earned during the game.

The main weapons in the fight against enemies, traditionally, as in other TDs, are towers, such as an archer tower, a cannon and a magic tower. In turn, the player has the opportunity to pump them up, if only there were coins. Ember Guards differs from its counterparts in that it allows the player not only to build a strategy based on the correct placement of battle towers, but also makes you think about the appropriate choice of hero, because they all have different magical abilities that affect specific units.
It is the right combination of constructed towers and the hero’s magical abilities, plus the timely use of boosters, that allows you to competently conduct the battle and count on the enemy being defeated. On the field, something is constantly thumping, banging and exploding, and coins are falling out of some units.
As for the Ember Guards interface, in addition to standard Store and Settings, there are buildings such as the Tavern, the Forge and the Library. By looking into the Tavern, we can choose a hero suitable for us. Dropping by on the way to the Forge, we will upgrade our weapons. Well, in the Library we can thoroughly study the behavior of enemies and get acquainted with the characteristics of our towers. I advise you not to ignore these establishments and visit them periodically.

What's really impressive about Ember Guards are the bosses, which are huge and scary (like the giant worm). While playing, I caught myself thinking that I was looking forward to the next meeting with these “cute” creatures.
