The Moscow International Book Fair opened at VDNKh.

The 29th Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF) will be held from September 7 to 11, 2016. More than 500 publishing houses from Russia and countries near and far abroad will gather at VDNKh, one of the most popular public spaces in the capital, to present their fiction, children's, educational, popular science, reference, encyclopedic and other literature.

Famous writers, theater and film actors, cultural, artistic, political, scientific and sports figures will present the latest in modern literature and book publishing to guests and residents of the capital.

The Moscow International Book Fair has established itself as a unique platform for interaction and communication between literature fans, authors and book publishers from different countries and continents. In total, more than 600 events are planned. Guests will be able to listen to speeches by their favorite authors, purchase their books and get autographs. MIBF participants include Denis Dragunsky, Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Tatyana Ustinova, Daria Dontsova, Sola Monova, Vyacheslav Nikonov, Sergei Shargunov, Andrey Rumyantsev, Maria Metlitskaya, Oleg Roy, Vladimir Markin and many others.

Meetings with famous and beloved authors, book presentations are also planned at the stands of publishing houses. Thus, the Eksmo publishing house will present a new book by Victor Pelevin, “The Lamp of Methuselah, or the Ultimate Battle of the Chekists with the Freemasons.” Vladimir Markin presents a book by the Investigative Committee about the most notorious crimes of the 21st century in Russia. Book publishers from 37 countries will try to reveal the culture and traditions of their country through literature and art. The Chinese delegation is represented by 48 publishing companies, which will bring more than 1,000 books of fiction and educational literature. As part of the cross Year of Russian Media in the People's Republic of China and the Year of Chinese Media in the Russian Federation, Chinese language master classes for students will be held. Iran is presenting a Persian translation of a collection of short stories by Fazil Iskander. The Republic of Cuba will hold events in honor of the 90th anniversary of the birth of Fidel Castro; unique photographs and interesting facts from the life of the revolutionary will be presented at the stand. Armenia will present Bryusov’s anthology “Poetry of Armenia from ancient times to the present day.” Guests will be able to get acquainted with Armenian photographic art at the presentation of the catalog album “Armenia according to Mandelstam. Armenian photography 1878-1920.” Other countries also prepared an entertaining program dedicated to literary novelties.

A special exhibition and program of events is planned for the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Commonwealth of Independent States. In honor of the anniversary, stands of the CIS member states will be organized at the exhibition, and events of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS member states will be held - in particular, presentations of books both published by the fund and published in different countries of the Commonwealth. According to tradition, the winners of the International Competition of the CIS Member States “The Art of the Book” will be honored at the MIBF.

The Moscow government will present a separate media exposition “Book Moscow”. Separately, “Region in Focus” will be presented - the winner of last year’s competition “The Most Reading Region of Russia” - the Ulyanovsk Region.

MIBF traditionally opens a new book season and sums up the past. Thus, as part of the exhibition-fair, one of the expected events in the literary community will take place - the awarding of the winners of the annual National Competition “Book of the Year”. Central stage in the pavilion of hall “A”

Perhaps the liveliest and brightest at the MIBF will be the children's literature area. The most famous children's authors will gather here, who will tell their readers fascinating stories about the exciting adventures of their favorite characters. In total, the site will host more than 40 events for children and their parents. Everyone will find something to their liking at this site: kids will be able to watch a selection of animated films and filmstrips from the unique digitized collection of the Russian State Children's Library, older children will take part in master classes and quizzes at the “Read! MIBF, opening the school year, makes it bright together with the writer and primary school teacher Ekaterina Timashpolskaya. Almost 30 events dedicated to issues of education, advanced training and professions of the book market will unite at the “Book: Space of Professions” platform. At specialized seminars, marketers and specialists from leading publications will tell participants how to work effectively with publishing houses and printing houses, tell all the intricacies of promoting and selling books, and also present various technological innovations used in modern book publishing.
