The Technology and Physics Core Set includes instructions for building 10 basic and 18 basic models designed to explore the design and operation of machines found in everyday life.

Thanks to the set, children get acquainted with the world of mechanics, learn the basics of technology and automated control. The set is intended for studying basic topics in technology and some sections of the course in physics, mathematics, as well as for studying the basics of special technical disciplines.

With the Technology and Physics set, children build and explore models of real motorized machines, learn the principles of using plastic blades to produce, store and transmit wind energy, learn gear trains, and the principles of force, motion, acceleration and speed. The set is perfectly complemented by basic-level tasks and tasks of increased complexity in technology and physics; tasks are not included in this set.

The Technology and Physics set will allow children to:

    • Design and explore the mechanisms we use every day.
    • To study the concept of gear ratio and the principle of operation of gears.
    • Learn the concept of pulleys and the operating principle of belt drives.
    • Study physical concepts - weight, friction, air resistance, forces, kinetic and potential energy, balance.
    • Enrich your vocabulary with technical terms.
    • Learn to take measurements (distance, weight) and calculate the values of interest.

After studying the constructor "Set of simple mechanisms“The guys are ready to build more complex models. The set will help them with this . This construction set is designed for students aged 8-11 years old: with it, children will begin to study physics and mathematics in a playful way.

For example, one of the tasks requires you to build a cart, roll it down an inclined plane and measure how far it went. The goal of the task is to build a cart that will travel the farthest. What does this require: increase the weight of the cart or install larger wheels? The guys have to find out. Or a more challenging task: design a tower crane and study how the pulley system affects its operation. When does a pulley system provide a benefit in strength and when does it benefit in speed? All these questions can be studied in classes with the Technology and Physics set.

For this designer, 2 sets of tutorials were prepared:

The basic level set contains 38 lessons with basic models, 4 lessons with basic models and 6 creative lessons. Basic models are simple machines that are easy and quick to build. By assembling basic models, children learn basic mechanical principles: lever, wedge, screw, pulley system, gear, cam, ratchet and others.

After learning the basic models, students can move on to the 4 basic models - lever scale, tower crane, ramp and racing car. These are more complex models, so they are assembled by two people using technological maps. The technological map is instructions for assembling one half of the model. The guys use 2 different technological cards (A and B) - each assembles their own part of the mechanism, and then they connect both halves together into a single model. For each model, materials for teachers have been prepared, which provide theoretical information, useful tips, interesting questions and answers to them. In the worksheet, students can read the necessary theory and also answer questions about the assembled model.

To consolidate the acquired skills, at the end of the course it is proposed to conduct 6 creative classes, in each of which the children will come up with their own mechanism for solving real problems. An example of a possible (but, of course, not required) construction is given in the teacher's materials.

Tasks of increased complexity are a logical continuation of the first manual and will help children learn more complex physical concepts in a similar playful form - gear ratio, friction force, energy.

In addition to instructions for assembling models, lesson plans and teacher materials, both manuals contain:

    • video and graphic materials for lessons
    • handouts for students
    • glossary of terms for students

In 2011, 13 LEGO sets were sent to the International Space Station, including the Technology and Physics construction set. The astronauts assembled various models, talked about them, and showed how they behave in a state of weightlessness. All materials necessary for preparing a “space” lesson are publicly available - notes for teachers, workbooks for students, instructions for assembling models, videos, additional materials. The Technology and Physics set was used in the following classes:

    • A space flight
    • Land yachts
    • Windmill
    • Hammer
    • Measuring wheel
    • Lever scales
    • Spinning

The Technology and Physics set will allow children to:

    • Design and explore the mechanisms we use every day.
    • To study the concept of gear ratio and the principle of operation of gears.
    • Learn the concept of pulleys and the operating principle of belt drives.
    • Learn physical concepts - weight, friction, air resistance, forces, kinetic and potential energy, balance.
