“The early period of the Unified State Examination this year went smoothly, without any glitches. There are no serious violations or leaks of exam materials,” said Sergei Kravtsov.
The early period of the Unified State Exam took place from March 23 to April 14. About 26.5 thousand participants took the exams, which is about 10 thousand more than last year. Mostly, the work was written by graduates of previous years who wished to improve their results in a particular subject.
Exams of the early period were taken in all subjects of the Russian Federation, except for the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. To conduct them, 275 examination points (PPE) were used.
At all points of the early wave, online video surveillance was carried out, technologies were used for printing control measuring materials (CMM) and scanning participant answer forms in classrooms. Employees of Rosobrnadzor, its subordinate institutions, about 1 thousand students of regional universities who became public observers, and more than 300 online observers took part in monitoring the progress of the exams.
The most popular subjects among those taking the Unified State Exam in the early period were the compulsory subjects, Russian language and mathematics, as well as social studies. More than 20% of participants chose history, exams in physics and biology - over 16% of early period participants, chemistry - 11%.
Sergei Kravtsov reported that this year the number of participants in the early period of the Unified State Exam who failed to overcome the minimum score threshold has decreased. According to him, the analysis of marks made during exams by online observers is currently ongoing. Based on the results of the analysis, the total number of violators of the procedure for conducting the Unified State Exam at the early stage will be clarified.
The order of the Ministry of Education and Science on approval of the Unified State Exam schedule for the current academic year is published in November - maximum in the first ten days of January. The procedure for conducting the Unified State Exam includes three stages: main, early and additional. The dates for each of them are established annually by order of the Ministry of Education.
Early and main stage dates
Typically, the early testing period starts on March 21 and ends on April 10-11. The first exam of the main stage is held around May 27-28, the rest dates are in June. Current data can be found on the official GIA information support website (ege.edu.ru).
The Unified State Exam schedule provides for reserve days for passing all subjects.
Early completion of the Unified State Exam
The following are allowed for early testing in all disciplines of the Unified State Exam:
- Persons who graduated from school in previous years (up to 2013 inclusive) and wish to enter universities.
- Graduates who have completed the curriculum in full (without academic debt) and successfully passed the final essay, but who, for good reasons (including relocation, sports competitions, etc.) will not be able to participate in the main stage of the Unified State Exam.
- Persons who previously graduated from school with a certificate.
The conditions and rules for conducting the Unified State Exam during the early period do not differ from those established for the main stage.
Innovations in the schedule
After the introduction of the Unified State Exam, a number of improvements appeared in the schedule aimed at optimizing the conduct of exams:
- Mathematics was divided into two levels - basic and specialized, and a separate day was allocated for each of them.
- Graduates who failed the Unified State Exam in compulsory subjects (Russian and mathematics) were given the opportunity to retake the exams in September.
- Statistics of admissions campaigns to universities have revealed that about a third of applicants take social studies. In view of this, they decided to modify the Unified State Exam schedule, and a separate day was allocated for the exam in this discipline.
Two years ago, in Moscow schools, a trial Unified State Examination in mathematics was conducted experimentally for 10th grade students. Positive marks received on the training test were counted as passing marks for obtaining a certificate of secondary education. Negative grades could be retaken the following year.
Reserve days in the schedule
For graduates who, for some reason, were unable to pass the Unified State Exam at the appointed time, special reserve days are allocated in the schedule. Schoolchildren can take advantage of the right to take the exam on additional dates if:
- Subjects were selected for which the test days coincide.
- The student did not appear for the exam or was unable to complete the testing begun for a valid reason.
- The graduate did not pass one of the required disciplines.
Failure to appear due to illness is considered a valid reason. In this case, the eleventh grader is required to provide a certificate to the educational institution where he was registered. Next, the school submits the documents to the examination committee, which sets a new test date based on the Unified State Exam schedule.

Mandatory exams and elective disciplines
The list of disciplines that must be passed at any cost traditionally includes the Russian language and mathematics. Although from 2017 they are going to add one more compulsory subject to these subjects. True, it is not yet known what kind of object this is. Changes and innovations in the Unified State Exam 2017
As mentioned above, it is planned to add one more to the two mandatory subjects for passing the Unified State Exam, but which one is unknown. A rather important change that affected the content of examination tests is the abolition of the test part for several subjects at once. Thus, tests have been canceled not only in Russian language and mathematics, but also in “oral” subjects. The test part of the exam remains only in the Unified State Exam in a foreign language.
An innovation that speaks of the improvement of the Unified State Exam and its attempt to keep up with the times is the passing of the Unified State Exam in computer science and ICT on a computer. Since 2017, the oral part “Speaking” has been introduced for exams in foreign languages. Now foreign languages will need to be taken 15 minutes longer - that’s how long the oral part will last. In addition to foreign languages, there is an idea to also introduce an oral part in the Unified State Exam in history, literature and social studies, but for now this is only in the draft. And in test mode, the oral part of the Russian language exam will be tested. Thus, in some regions of Russia, the Russian language exam in 2017 will include an oral part. Changes in the Unified State Examination
Already in 2016, all students felt the burden of the changes that took place in the Unified State Examination system. Officials continue to fundamentally change the way this work is carried out so that the process of testing knowledge is more accurate and transparent. The most important innovations are:
- The list of required subjects has been increased to three. Let us recall that until 2016, graduates took only two subjects (Russian and mathematics). Now history will be one of the compulsory subjects. It will have to be taken not only in test form, where it is possible to put answers at random, but also orally. In addition, a foreign language may be a presumable compulsory subject. However, while officials are skeptical about this decision and intend to introduce this test closer to 2020.
- In total, at the Unified State Exam 2017 you will need to pass at least 4 subjects. Depending on which university the future applicant enters, the names of these subjects may change.
- It is planned to test knowledge in the subject “Informatics” on computers. By 2017, the Ministry of Education must prepare appropriate programs for this.
- Points earned on the Unified State Exam influence the final certificate of the graduate.
- Mathematics will be taken in two standards: basic and specialized.
Don’t forget that you shouldn’t delay preparing for exams. During the school year, it is more difficult to find a few hours to devote to the Unified State Exam. Like last year, in 2017 there are two “streams” of the Unified State Exam – an early period (it takes place in mid-spring) and the main period, which traditionally starts at the end of the academic year, the last days of May. The official draft Unified State Exam schedule “specifies” all the dates for taking exams in all subjects in both of these periods - including additional reserve days provided for those who, for good reason (illness, coincidence of exam dates, etc.) were unable to pass the Unified State Exam within the specified time frame.

In 2017, the early “wave” of the Unified State Exam will start earlier than usual. If last year the peak of the spring exam period occurred in the last week of March, then this season the spring break period will be free from the Unified State Examination.
The main dates of the early period are from March 14 to March 24. Thus, by the beginning of the spring school holidays, many “early-term students” will already have time to pass the tests. And this may turn out to be convenient: among the graduates who have the right to take the Unified State Exam in the early wave are guys who will participate in Russian or international competitions and competitions in May, and during spring break they often go to sports camps, specialized shifts in camps, etc. d. Pushing exams earlier will allow them to make the most of the exams.
Additional (reserve) days early period of the Unified State Exam 2017 will be held from April 3 to April 7. At the same time, many will probably have to write exams on reserve dates: if in the last year’s schedule no more than two subjects were taken on the same day, then in 2017 most elective exams are grouped “in threes”.
Separate days are allocated only for three subjects: the Russian language exam, which is mandatory for graduates and all future applicants, as well as mathematics and the oral part of the foreign language exam. At the same time, this year “early-term” students will take the “speaking” part before the written part.

There is a nine-day pause between the main and reserve days of the early period. All additional tests for “reservists” will take place over three days:

As a rule, the bulk of those taking the Unified State Examination ahead of schedule are graduates of previous years, as well as graduates of secondary specialized educational institutions (in colleges and vocational lyceums, the secondary school program is usually “passed” in the first year of study). In addition, school graduates who will be absent for valid reasons during the main period of taking the Unified State Exam (for example, to participate in Russian or international competitions or to be treated in a sanatorium) or who intend to continue their education outside Russia can “shoot” the exams early.
Graduates of 2017 can also, at their own request, choose the date for taking exams in those subjects for which the program has been completed in full. This is relevant primarily for those who are planning - the school course on this subject is taught up to grade 10, and passing one of the exams early can reduce tension during the main period of the Unified State Exam.

The main period for passing the Unified State Exam in 2017 starts on May 26, and by June 16, most graduates will have completed the exam epic. For those who were unable to pass the Unified State Exam on time for a good reason or chose subjects with the same deadlines, there are reserve exam days from June 19. Like last year, the last day of the Unified State Exam period will become a “single reserve” - on June 30 it will be possible to take the exam in any subject.
At the same time, the exam schedule for the main period of the Unified State Examination 2017 is much less dense in comparison with early exams, and most graduates will probably be able to avoid “overlapping” exam dates.
Separate exam days are allocated for passing compulsory subjects: Russian language, basic and specialized level mathematics (students have the right to take either one of these exams or both at once, so they are traditionally spaced out over several days in the main period schedule).
As last year, a separate day is allocated for the most popular elective exam - social studies. And two separate days are allocated for passing the oral part of the exam in foreign languages. In addition, a separate day is allocated for the subject that is not the most popular on the Unified State Exam - geography. Perhaps this was done in order to space out all natural science subjects in the schedule, reducing the number of coincidences.
Thus, in the Unified State Exam schedule there remain two pairs and one “troika” of subjects, exams for which will be taken simultaneously:
- chemistry, history and computer science;
- foreign languages and biology,
- literature and physics.
The exams must take place on the following dates:

Thus, most schoolchildren will prepare for graduation “with a clear conscience”, having already passed all scheduled exams and received results in most subjects. Those who missed the main examination period, chose subjects with the same deadlines, received a “fail” in Russian or mathematics, were removed from the exam, or encountered technical or organizational difficulties while taking the Unified State Exam (for example, a lack of additional forms or a power outage), exams will be taken on reserve dates.

Can there be changes to the Unified State Exam schedule?
The draft official Unified State Exam schedule is usually published at the beginning of the school year, discussed, and the final approval of the exam schedule occurs in the spring. Therefore, changes are possible in the Unified State Exam schedule for 2017.
However, for example, in 2016, the project was approved without any changes and the actual exam dates completely coincided with those announced in advance - both in the early and in the main wave. So the chances that the 2017 schedule will also be adopted without changes are quite high.
