The purpose of this tutorial is to help students of the Lithuanian language acquire reading, speaking and partially writing skills, teach how to navigate language situations as freely as possible, understand by ear, read and retell simple texts, express their opinions on the issues raised in them, and also read more difficult texts using a dictionary, prepare short reports on a given topic.
A very intelligent and detailed tutorial with many exercises, both oral and written. The introductory course provides information about phonetics, pronunciation and spelling features. The main course involves teaching reading and speaking. There is a large grammar application and two dictionaries.

This textbook is offered as a guide for students studying the Lithuanian language on the basis of the Russian language. In addition, it can serve as a tool for learning the language in clubs, as well as for independent work.
So that the textbook can be used by both beginners and those with some knowledge of the Lithuanian language, its material is presented in two parts. The first, elementary part of the textbook is intended for beginners. It provides a short course in phonetics and the necessary information on morphology. The main focus in this part is on reading and translating easy texts, as well as exercises for acquiring speaking skills.
The second part of the textbook requires a more prepared audience. This refers primarily to students of philological departments. The phonetics section is expanded with information about intonation and stress in the Lithuanian language, and the morphology course is presented in the generally accepted grammatical sequence.
Since the syntax of the Lithuanian and Russian languages is almost the same, the textbook gives only examples of discrepancies in this area, such as the use of inconsistent definitions, verb control, etc.
Gender of nouns.
There are two genders of nouns in Lithuanian: masculine and feminine.
The gender of nouns and other inflected words can be determined by the nominative singular, with the exception of nouns ending in -is. Nouns can end in -is, either masculine or feminine.
There are no neuter nouns in the Lithuanian language.
Lithuanian nouns do not always coincide in gender with Russian nouns: butas (masculine) - apartment, fabrikas (masculine) - factory, kava (feminine) - coffee, etc. (see page 152).
