What circumstances prompted UMMC to decide to create its own Technical University?
Modern industry requires technical specialists, and at a very high level of quality. A simple example: the Company spends up to three years and tens, hundreds of thousands of rubles to “fine-tune” one university graduate, since traditional educational programs do not provide the necessary practical training. Add to this problem the low prestige of blue-collar jobs, the rapid development of technology and the need to constantly improve the skills of existing personnel. All this prompted the creation of technical training centers, where the capabilities of enterprises will be used for training and practical specialists will be involved.
Is TU UMMC a higher educational institution?
No. The main purpose of technical training is to improve the qualifications of employees of UMMC enterprises. An institution of additional professional education is opening in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, the task of which is to provide modern practical knowledge and skills to people who already have a diploma.
TU UMMC is a branch of the Ural Federal University named after. B.N. Yeltsin?
TU is an independent educational institution, the founder of which is UGMK-Holding LLC. Together with UrFU, we are creating a laboratory complex on the basis of the UMMC Technical University, where undergraduate and graduate students of UrFU will be able to complete part of their training program. UMMC has a cooperation agreement with UrFU, within the framework of which the possibility of creating a branch of UrFU in Verkhnyaya Pyshma is actually being considered.
Is TU UMMC a large training center "Uralelectromed"?
In the TU building, on the 3rd floor, the training center of Uralelectromed OJSC will indeed be located, but in an updated form - with a dozen ultra-modern classes for training workers - mechanics, electricians, hydraulics, crane operators, steel mill workers, etc. But most classrooms and laboratories at the corporate university will be focused on training the engineering “elite” for all enterprises of the holding. There will be the most modern laboratory equipment, powerful computer and multimedia equipment, and video conferencing. It is safe to say that TU with its complex of programs and the latest equipment is a unique phenomenon.
Can I enroll in TU after 11th grade?
This is the most common misconception. In order to study at TU, school graduates need to enroll in one of the UMMC partner universities, for example, UrFU, under the conditions of targeted training. As part of this training, starting from the third year, practical classes are provided at the site of the UMMC Technical University. The knowledge gained here guarantees young people employment at the company’s enterprises, and will also allow them to work fully in production literally from the first days of going to work.
Is the specification intended only for employees of UMMC enterprises?
No. Of course, the main task is to train the company’s employees who will come to Verkhnyaya Pyshma from all the cities where the holding’s enterprises are located. But a private educational institution, such as TU, is obliged to expand the range of its educational programs and conquer the market for educational services. Therefore, we will welcome clients from other companies. Over time, those who wish will be able to undergo training and receive a certificate from the UMMC Technical University.
Will scientific research be conducted at TU?
Yes. A unique metallurgy laboratory complex is being created on the basis of the corporate university. The list of equipment is compiled in such a way that it covers almost all aspects of the company's main production facilities. Since 2011, a hydrometallurgical laboratory located at the site of Uralelectromed OJSC has been operating and producing practical results. In 2013, a new building for eight laboratories is being built. Equipment for laboratories of pyrometallurgy and physicochemical methods of analysis has already been purchased. In 2014, laboratories for foundry production and modeling of metallurgical processes will open.
Who will teach at TU UMMC?
The best teachers from educational institutions, including leading universities in the Urals, will be invited to TU. But the emphasis is on training corporate teachers from among highly qualified managers and specialists of UMMC. The company's organizations employ more than 120 employees with an academic degree of candidate or doctor of science. This year it is planned to train the first groups of corporate trainers.
What specialties will be taught at TU UMMC?
The main area of advanced training at TU will be engineering training. But training is also provided under business education programs and corporate programs (“Preparation of personnel reserve”, “School of corporate teachers”, “School of masters”, etc.).
What documents will confirm the fact of studying at TU UMMC?
The purpose of the Technical University is to provide applied knowledge for effective work at a specific enterprise, and not a “crust”. After completing advanced training courses, UMMC TU certificates will be issued, and graduates of universities, technical schools and colleges will receive UMMC TU certificates in addition to the main diploma.
The holding's enterprises have begun to develop corporate professional standards. How is this process related to the creation of technical specifications?
New professional standards are the basis for the creation of advanced training and retraining programs for technical training. In addition, they will be taken into account when drawing up educational programs at UrFU and technical schools. Thus, a pilot project for the development of professional standards started at Uralelectromed OJSC in January 2012. To date, 29 professional standards have been developed and approved for working professions and positions in the main production processes of the enterprise. This year, about 500 more standards should appear at UMMC enterprises.
Will all training of personnel at UMMC enterprises now be carried out only at TU?
No. This is irrational. Standard training programs, especially worker training programs, will continue to be conducted locally at enterprise training centers. It is cheaper, more convenient for workers, and long business trips are not required. But now a number of unique corporate training programs are being prepared; training in them will only be available at TU.
Will there be a fee for training? If so, what will be the cost of TU services compared to the cost of educational services on the foreign market?
The costs associated with training will be borne by the enterprise that sent the employee or target student to the UMMC Technical University. We hope not to “raise” prices. But there will also be special programs aimed at mastering corporate technologies – these are a separate discussion.
What forms of training are offered at TU?
The Technical University will have a license to conduct educational programs for advanced training, and the range in this case is as wide as possible: from one-day 8-hour seminars and trainings to 500-hour professional retraining programs, from business education to engineering training. We are talking about really serious scale. We expect that approximately 7,000 of our engineers, managers and employees will pass through the Technical University per year. Accordingly, various forms of conducting the educational process at the Technical University are planned: from full-time (seminars, trainings, etc.) to distance learning using the most modern information technologies (webinars, video conferences, etc.).
Is it possible for TU teachers to travel directly to enterprises for group training?
Distance learning is possible. The decision on a particular training format will be made on the basis of economic feasibility and the possibility of solving educational problems.
Where will employees of UMMC enterprises live when they come to study at TU?
The UMMC hotel complex and the Selenium base are already ready to receive students. A hotel-type dormitory with 400 beds is being designed.

Why was UMMC University invented?
The Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company includes about 50 enterprises located in 12 regions of Russia. The company's enterprises employ more than 80 thousand workers. Taking into account the requirements of real production, requirements for personnel and their competencies are formulated, which are included in the corporate professional standards of UMMC enterprises. A total of 2,000 UMMC professional standards are being developed, on the basis of which personnel assessment and training are carried out.

The next step is to strengthen the scientific component of corporate training. For this purpose, a laboratory complex is being created jointly with Verkhnyaya Pyshma. Laboratory equipment is selected in such a way as to cover all areas of UMMC’s production activities.
An important tool for honing skills is the use of virtual simulators. For example, a reliable emulator of the copper smelting shop of Uralelectromed OJSC has been created, which allows you to simulate production and emergency situations, and conduct training for workers’ actions in these situations.
The UMMC Technical University is the organizational and methodological center for 21 training centers of the company's enterprises. There is the possibility of distance learning simultaneously for groups from different enterprises, carrying out joint projects using the Internet.
