Volunteer Training Center “Forward” of Sochi State University

Having become one of the winners of the competition and having concluded an agreement with the ANO Organizing Committee Sochi 2014, Sochi State University received the honorable right to select and train volunteers to participate in the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in the city of Sochi.

On the day when Russia celebrated 1000 days before the start of the Games in Sochi, the Forward Volunteer Training Center was opened at SSU. The center specializes in training Olympic volunteers in four functional areas: “Event service”, “Ceremonies”, “Olympic village management”, “Accommodation”.

At the selection stage, the SSU volunteer center conducted a number of assessment activities: online tests to determine business qualities and level of English language proficiency, face-to-face interviews and interviews via Skype for candidates from other cities. Having entered a new stage of the volunteer program, the Forward Center of SSU provides training for volunteers.

Every season, SSU volunteers take part in organizing test competitions at the sports facilities of the Olympic Park and in the mountain cluster complexes. Every year, university volunteers help organizers of major sporting events: our students worked at the first Youth Games in Innsbruck (Austria), and were part of the golden hundred Russian volunteers at the Games in London. In the summer of 2013, the SSU delegation successfully worked at the World University Games in Kazan and the World Athletics Championships in Moscow.

In parallel with sports volunteering, SSU students participate in environmental, social, and educational volunteering events. They conduct Olympic and Paralympic lessons in city schools, and several times a semester they join teams of environmental volunteers. Student volunteers have repeatedly made presentations about their activities at national and international conferences.

The Forward Center of SSU is taking part in the creation of the first complete database of facilities with elements of a barrier-free environment in the history of the country. The countdown of 500 days to the Paralympic Games in Sochi began with the launch of the “Accessibility Map” - a joint web project of the United Country Foundation for the Support of Disabled People and the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee. This innovative resource is one of the key ones in the Program for raising the level of awareness of the Russian population about the Paralympic Games.

SSU volunteers explore areas of Sochi and contribute information to the “Accessibility Maps” website, designed to help people with disabilities find accessible city infrastructure and places where they can practice Paralympic sports. Today, more than a thousand objects of our city are marked on the map - with detailed descriptions and photographic evidence of the presence of elements of a barrier-free environment.

SSU Volunteer Club “Creation” started its work in November 2009. The volunteer movement of the Sochi State University of Tourism and Resort Business (SSU) unites students, graduate students and teachers on the basis of common interests, active participation in social and pedagogical activities and the implementation of socially significant projects. The chairman of the club is Nadezhda Mansumovna Grigorashchenko-Alieva.

Volunteers of the “Creation” club are people of the future who are already preparing the ground for the birth of new productive creative ideas, sowing goodness into the hearts of those who need and ask for help. Only the owner of the following qualities can contribute to their development in others. Patriotism, hard work, morality, a high level of culture, creativity, leadership qualities, innovative thinking - these are the characteristics a true volunteer is endowed with. The SSU volunteer movement is aimed, among other things, at supporting the most active and talented students.

Volunteers are people who want and can change the world around them for the better, relying on creativity and volunteerism.

An active, proactive person with a clear civic position is able to remind society of the obvious problems of our time: orphanhood, disability, neglect, homelessness and many others. We also have the opportunity to surround those in need with invaluable warmth, care, and give them the experience of friendship and love.

The SSU “Creation” club works in the following areas:

1. “Health Volunteers” working in the direction of “Prevention of HIV/AIDS, infections and drug addiction on the principle of “Peer to Peer”. The first action within the framework of this movement was timed to coincide with December 1, 2009 - AIDS Day. On December 4-5, volunteers took part in the preparation and holding of the 6th All-Russian Conference “Healthy Lifestyle and Prevention of Youth Drug Addiction.”

2. Volunteers who provide assistance to orphans, disabled children, as well as children and adolescents in difficult life situations.

3. Volunteers serving forums, exhibitions, conferences.

4. Olympic and Paralympic volunteers.

One of the principles of volunteering is voluntariness. Volunteer is a person who is engaged free of charge (without any coercion) in activities to resolve socially significant problems. The basic principles of volunteer activity in SSU are also equality, self-government and the rule of law. Consequently, such activities contribute to the actualization and development of personal, socially significant qualities of the subjects of this activity: develops a socially active life position in a person, increases the level of education, morality, improves the physical health of the individual (thanks to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle - one of the areas of work of the SSU volunteer movement ), encourages the individual to behave safely in society.

Many programs are implemented to train volunteers. For example, the dramatic technology symbol developed by our university, recognized at the interregional level in Stavropol. Special volunteer training programs are also used.

Volunteering at SSU is an activity aimed at expanding opportunities for personal and professional growth, meeting like-minded people from different regions of the country, a step in development that determines future opportunities; This is, in fact, the initial link in career growth.

Volunteering is a platform where a student or young specialist can “try themselves,” express themselves, demonstrate and develop the management skills necessary for a modern professional:

Skill to work in team,

Build communications at various levels,

Apply an integrated, systematic approach.

A unique space for young people - a volunteer club that opens up promising areas of personal and professional growth - promotes the development of integral thinking. A space of unlimited topics, resources, a space of abundance of opportunities and self-realization.

The SSU Volunteer Club “Creation” has the following goals:

*promotion of activities in the field of science, culture, art and education, enlightenment and spiritual development of the individual;

*creating conditions for the comprehensive and most complete development and realization of the creative and scientific potential of university students;

*orientation of students to work in various specialized institutions, as well as information about various educational programs (grants) conducted in Russia and abroad.

The SSU volunteer movement implements programs aimed at positively using the enthusiasm and initiative of the active part of young people in strengthening the cultural and scientific potential of the University. Let's turn to the dictionary of foreign words and see: an enthusiast is a person who is ardently devoted to a task, working with enthusiasm (Greek enthusiasmos “divine inspiration”) - strong inspiration, elation, passion.

The SSU Volunteer Club “Creation” gives its members the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in building communications, teamwork skills, free generation and implementation of creative ideas; necessary competencies to work in the modern information environment. A promising direction of the club’s work is the implementation of a program of cultural events aimed at developing a personality with the following characteristics: enthusiasm, active life position, creative approach to solving any kind of problems, initiative, patriotism, hard work, morality, high level of culture and intelligence, leadership qualities, non-standard thinking, ability to predict and systematic thinking.
