How to see all the fireworks on City Day

On the 870th birthday, dozens of fireworks will go off in Moscow - each prefecture will have its own. However, there is also a unique offer - to enjoy the inspiring spectacle from the 230-meter height of the Empire Tower.

The excursion “City Day on the 58th Floor” invites you to celebrate the holiday on top of the Moscow City building. Why is the offer interesting? It's simple - from here you will see all the fireworks, and at once.

The cost of the excursion and the “City Day on the 58th Floor” fireworks display is set by the organizer.

We eat pike-burger, dance at Muzeon, take quests to learn about history

The celebration of City Day becomes a special festive event every year. The choice is not only walking around the center of Moscow with concerts by fashionable performers, but also, for example, reading poems dedicated to the capital or practicing water sports right on Revolution Square. Read, choose, plan your day - and have a nice holiday!

Everything for concerts: from rock to indie

Traditionally, almost every park, almost every city venue on City Day hosts a concert. Most often, these are either well-worn, popular singers, or folk groups whose songs and dances are broadcast on a regional scale. But sometimes you can find really worthy concerts, for which you can hang around in a crowd of people.

All the “movement” for young people will be, surprisingly, not in the city center, but in Strogino, in Moskvoretsky Park. A stage will be installed right on the water where a concert of the Metro on Stage festival of young musicians will take place. The names of these artists are hardly known to a wide circle of readers, and one should not go to the ends of the earth for their sake. Along with the youngsters, the “oldies” will appear on stage - “Underwood”, “Pilot” and a certain third headliner, whose name has not yet been revealed. Seems like a good reason to go this far.

An interesting concert will take place on September 9 in Muzeon Park. An indie-style evening is expected there: “Zorkiy”, Everything Is Made in China, Mana Island and Poko Cox. The teams are not that widely known, but it will be possible to sit closer.

Advanced music lovers should try to make their way to Tverskaya, where Pyotr Termen will play on the platform between Voznesensky and Stoleshnikov lanes. By the way, he is the great-grandson of the creator of the theremin, Lev Theremin. What kind of instrument is this - it is better to hear once than to read a hundred times. And it’s better to hear in advance: the queues at the metal detectors on Tverskaya can discourage all musical desires.

Another rock party will be in Babushkinsky Park. After the official show and children's creative groups of NEAD, the group “Total” (15.10–16.00), “7B” (17.00–18.00), “Django” (18.00–19.00), “Masha and the Bears” (19.00–20.00) will take the stage. And on September 10, the holiday will continue with a performance by the group “Old Friend” (18.00–19.00) and “After 11” (19.00–20.00). This is something of a surprise for those who thought that these groups broke up ten years ago. And they will most likely play old hits.

Well, for the atmosphere, you can sing songs about Moscow at the Vorontsovo estate. On September 9, from 15.00 to 20.00, compositions dedicated to the capital will be played there. The music marathon will continue on Sunday from 14.15 to 17.00. At 19.30, the organizers of the site will organize a collective viewing of the most iconic film about the capital: “I’m Walking Around Moscow.”

A big concert of pop performers will take place on Poklonnaya Hill. At the Patriarch's Ponds this year, the stage on the water will be occupied by symphony orchestras and opera singers. It looks very romantic, especially in the evening, in the light of the lanterns reflected in the pond.

Poetry Saturdays

Poems are read every year on City Day. A traditional gathering place for poets and poetry lovers is Triumphal Square. The organizers do not reveal all the nuances, but promise literary performances, poetry readings and literary quests. In addition, an interactive event “Rhyme with Moscow” will be organized. The highlight will be the concert of the Feelin’s group and the famous Italian vocalist Boris Savoldelli: Yesenin’s poems will be read in Italian, English and Russian accompanied by jazz, blues and soul. By the way, the groups “Accident” and “Underwood” will also perform there.

On September 10, Alisa Grebenshchikova and the Universal MusicBand group will perform at the House-Museum of Marina Tsvetaeva (Borisoglebsky Lane, building 6, building 1). The musicians will present the program “The Poet is the Son of Harmony.” It sounds a little pretentious, but we are talking about reading Pushkin’s poems accompanied by a harp and organ. Some more thoughts are stated about the influence of the Golden Age of Russian poetry on the Silver Age using the example of Marina Tsvetaeva and Alexander Blok. In performances, including poetic ones, Alisa Grebenshchikova is clearly in her place, which is why it is interesting to listen to Pushkin performed by her. Starts at 21.00. Admission is free, but you must first register on the museum's website.

The site on Arbat is worth mentioning separately. There will be an inter-museum festival “Dog Playground. From the history of Arbat lanes." The task is simple and complex at the same time: to tell a fascinating story about Arbat, its history, architecture, famous residents and the Dog Playground itself. It appeared back in 1818 inside the Arbat building. It was the square between Serebryany, Bolshoy Nikolopeskovsky, Borisoglebsky and Krechetnikovsky lanes. It got its name from the court kennels that were there in the 17th century. Two hundred years later, the houses of the Turgenevs and Khomyakovs, the historian Sobolevsky, whose friends included Pushkin, Gogol, Lermontov, Baratynsky and Odoevsky, appeared there. On Saturday, from 17.30 there will be performances of Schubert, Chopin, Rachmaninov and others, and on Sunday at the same time there will be a lecture by historian and Arbat resident Alexander Yuryevich Bode.

A poetic journey from the sixties to modern rock poetry can be made in Fili Park. On September 9, they will play a musical solo performance about the life of Anna German, and organize a poetry song festival “Filigree” (headliner - “Kalinov Bridge”). For older people there will be a poetic sketch “...the 1960s - what a time! Poetry has shaken the country by the ears...” And in the Muzeon park there will be a “free microphone” - from 17.15 to 18.00, as part of an interactive program, park guests will be able to read their favorite poems. Before this, from 16.30 to 17.15, theater and film actor Konstantin Milov-Mikhailov will read poetry.

As during any holiday events, on September 9–10 Muscovites will have to put up with certain inconveniences when traveling by car. It is expected that a significant section of Tverskaya Street will be blocked - from the boulevard of the same name to the turn to Okhotny Ryad - as well as the adjacent lanes, Tsvetnoy Boulevard from Sadovo-Sukharevskaya Street to Trubnaya Square and Volkhonka. In general, it is better to leave your car at home or in a parking lot and walk to the holiday festivities.

Khachapuri, pilaf and other delicacies of Caucasian cuisine

Do you want intellectual fun, and even for free? Go to lectures and master classes, which on ordinary days you can only get into for money.

In the Krasnaya Presnya park on September 9 at 13.00 there will be a lecture by “a man with a mustache who travels around the world and eats cockroaches” - Mikhail Kozhukhov. According to the poster, the traveler will tell “about the most interesting things in the countries of the Commonwealth and Georgia.”

The “Moscow Invents” site (Tverskaya, from Voznesensky to Stoleshnikov Lane) will be given to science popularizers. Even if you are far from the world of science, it’s worth a look there at least for the sake of naturalist Evgenia Timonova, who wittily and lively talks about our little brothers. This time the TV presenter will explain why some cultural phenomena have direct analogies in the animal world. In addition, biologist and journalist Ilya Kolmanovsky will talk about the superpowers of plants and animals, and professor of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology Artem Oganov, as the organizers confidently declare, “will lift the veil on the secrets of the universe.”

There, on Tverskaya, at the “Moscow is Building” site (from Maly Gnezdnikovsky to Voznesensky Lane), the tour bureau “Moscow through the eyes of an engineer” will talk about the railways and stations of the capital.

On both holidays, lectures will be given in the courtyard of the Museum of Moscow. The most interesting ones, however (in our opinion), will take place on September 9. From 14.00 to 14.40, MSLU professor Vyacheslav Belousov will talk about how and why the Russian language is changing, and from 15.00 to 15.40, the director of the Center for Sociocognitive Research, Olga Iriskhanova, will discuss how to negotiate with robots. Admission to all lectures is free, but pre-registration is required.

And perhaps the most important lecture, which we definitely cannot miss: “How did the Khrushchev era change the lives and habits of people?” in the Central Universal Scientific Library named after N.A. Nekrasov. It will be held on September 10 from 18.00 to 19.00 with a full house, we are sure. The lecture will be given by Anna Alekseeva, a graduate of the School of Cultural Studies of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and a Master of Sociocultural Project Management from the University of Manchester.

Ballet about love is fashionable

One of the most interesting will be the City Day theater program. Modern theaters will perform in several parks at once. True, it’s better to come very early: more than a dozen lovers of high and free art can gather.

You can spend the whole day in the Hermitage Garden. On September 9, from 12.00, the theater marathon will begin there. Musical Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, Theater named after. Pushkin, “Ballet Moscow”, “School of Dramatic Art”, Taganka Theater, “School of Modern Play”, Theater on Serpukhovka under the direction of Teresa Durova, Puppet Theater named after. S.V. Obraztsova will present their best performances. For example, the Pushkin Theater will show “The Nativity of O. Henry” - a performance awarded the Golden Mask award for directorial work. The School of Dramatic Art will present a special project called Gilyarovsky. The finale will be no less bright: everything will end with the rock and drama “Viy” based on the play by Gogol and the lyrics of the underrated rock bard Alexander Litvinov, known under the pseudonym Venya D’rkin. The premiere will be presented by the Taganka Theater.

The second day in the garden will be no less interesting. In the middle of the day, after dance performances, actors from the Praktika Theater, the Meyerhold Center and Pyotr Fomenko’s workshop will appear on stage - they will present the poetic performance “Brodsky. Poetry".

The Northern River Station Park will be the best place for travel lovers. The Jewish theater “Shalom”, the Gypsy theater “Romen”, the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya, the “GLAS” theater, the “Russian Song” theater, the “Stuntman” theater, and the workshop of Alexei Rybnikov will present their productions. But this is not the only reason to go there: on September 9, fragments of the legendary performance “Juno” and “Avos” will be shown.

Street theater will take over Gorky Park. The French theater company Remue Ménage has been performing in the park for several years now and each time presents a colorful show at the intersection of circus, music and dance. This time, for the first time in Russia, they will show the play Gueule d’ours (September 9 and 10, from 14.10 to 14.40, on the Main Stage). The production features performers on stilts dressed as bears. On both days, the Stanislavsky Electrotheater will perform at the “Underwater Secrets” venue with the play “JUMB...LEE..YA” (14.10–14.40 and 16.10–16.40). And at 19.30 the Past the Crocodile Theater will take the stage: we don’t know what they will present, but judging by the name, it’s something funny.

The nearby Muzeon Park will be dominated by the fashion theater. On September 9, on the Krymskaya embankment, the Freak Factory theater will show the play “Once Upon a Time Happiness” (13.00–13.45), the theater “Sketches in Space” will show the play Animal trip. All with a touch of High Fashion and strange costumes.

Well, traditionally, on Tverskaya from Bryusov to Kamergersky Lane, at the “Moscow Creates” site, artists from the capital’s theaters will perform the Bolshoi Theater’s “Ballet of Love.” In addition, thematic locations will open - a ballet class and a sculpture salon.

Kvass ice cream - a tribute to craft cuisine

The main Moscow holiday will not be complete without refreshments - the festival venues will bring together all the best that the Moscow Jam, Moscow Fish and summer ice cream festivals have glorified the capital's cuisine. According to representatives of the City Day organizing committee, the emphasis will be on recipes of typical Moscow cuisine of all eras - from the ancients, when our food was cabbage soup and porridge, to the Soviet one, famous for the “Capital” salad.

Moving along the festival grounds - from Manezhnaya to Pushkinskaya Square, we will be able to trace the entire history of the development of Moscow cuisine. From Old Russian dishes, Old Moscow cuisine described in “Domostroy”, through dishes of Peter the Great’s times, Russian-French cuisine of the early 19th century, great Russian gastronomy of the early 20th century - to the cuisine of the NEP times, the new Soviet cuisine of the 1930s–50s, the cuisine of the so-called developed socialism, post-perestroika cuisine and, finally, to our modern cuisine of the 21st century,” said culinary specialist Pavel Syutkin.

Pre-revolutionary taverns offered Muscovites the simplest, most satisfying dishes: lamb flank, pork, a lot of buckwheat porridge and, as they would say now, an assortment of pastries. There was also a lot of fish - now in Moscow, unfortunately, they have almost forgotten how to cook it. In general, Moscow was called hospitable for a reason: they always knew how to feed people here. During the Soviet era, the quality of food fell, but simple dishes remained at the peak of popularity - capital salad, vinaigrette, sausages with green peas. These principles must be followed, and attempts to give them a “fashionable” touch - for example, serving apple pie with feijoa jam or pies with venison and onion confit - violate the very essence of Moscow cuisine, its simplicity and accessibility, Moscow expert Alexey explained to MK Mitrofanov.

In addition, according to him, a distinctive feature of the Soviet period of Moscow cuisine was a clear division: there was a separate kebab shop, and a separate sausage shop, pirozhkova shop, dumpling shop, or even lagman shop. This principle will also be observed at City Day: at each site they will be treated to something special.

The obstacle course will not impede walking

An amazing recent trend is the growing popularity of walking tours around Moscow, which are visited not only by guests of the capital or fans of local history, but also by those same fourth- or fifth-generation Muscovites... Tourism industry experts believe that the economic crisis is worth thanking for the new trend: when travel abroad became unavailable, people enthusiastically began exploring their hometown.

One way or another, the excursion group is not even on Red Square, but in a residential area of Moscow - reality, not fantasy. In honor of the holiday, city authorities offer to learn more about the history and architecture of Moscow absolutely free - you just need to register in advance on the website for the chosen walk. Singer Tutta Larsen, TV presenter Alexander Arkhangelsky and sports journalist Vasily Utkin will guide guests along the original routes.

And in the very center of Moscow a lake appeared. And this is not a flood or the Moscow River overflowing its banks. This is an artificially built swimming pool. Here you can watch demonstration performances in the disciplines of flowboarding and bobyboarding. Simply put, different types of boarding on water.

The main difference between a bodyboard and regular surfing is the size of the board and the riding position. The board is a piece of foam plastic about a meter long. They ride it while lying down, although you can stand up to perform some tricks if you wish. The surfer has fins on his feet.

Flowboarding is the same as surfing, but on an artificial wave. The waves are created using several powerful pumps. Speed is around 40–60 km/h.

One of the largest parkour parks (parkour is urban acrobatics, or, as it is otherwise called, the art of rational movement around the city) in Russia was specially designed for City Day. Now a whole 75-meter-long obstacle course awaits citizens. Anyone over 12 years old can try themselves on these trails.

Fly airplanes and build models

If the sea opens are calling you into the distance, you have read a lot of books and are raving about conquering the oceans, then you should go to New Arbat. There, for lovers of sea travel, daily quests are held to learn the history of sea discoveries. Throughout Novy Arbat you can try your hand at rowing a boat and even try to send a distress signal or convey more pleasant messages using flags. The Adult Library pavilion will house a real wardroom and a captain's bridge. Radio rooms will be installed next to them, so you can talk to a friend through the wall.

And for young sailors, attributes of a real ship will be installed in the Children's Library pavilion. You will be able to stand at the helm and touch the navigation instruments. If the knowledge gained is not enough, then you can go on an educational excursion from here.

The Sokolniki Park Convention and Exhibition Center will host the “Shot” exhibition. And it is rather addressed not just to gun lovers, but to those who enjoy the shooting process itself. At the exhibition you can communicate with representatives of special forces, manufacturers of shooting products, shooting teams and shooting ranges. Here you can buy your own equipment on sale.

You will also be able to shoot, and also see how professionals get into the top ten: demonstration performances and autograph sessions are also provided.

For those whose first priority is airplanes, there will be an aircraft designers club on Arbat. And on the 9th it will be possible to fly over Moscow. Of course, not on a real plane, but on a flight simulator, but that makes it no less interesting. You can find out what it’s like to lift a plane into the air and what all these sensors and toggle switches are for from 12 am to 6 pm. On the same day, all novice pilots will make a model airplane.

And September 10 will be entirely devoted to robotics and the construction of model aircraft. The free events will take place from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

On Arbat you can try on the image of an aviator at a photo shoot. Near the building on Arbat Street, property 6/2, tantamares in the form of airplane wings will be placed. From 11.00 to 21.00 everyone will be photographed.

In Babushkinsky Park you will be able to see an exhibition of aircraft equipment. If you want to assemble your own plane or remember your childhood spent in an aircraft modeling circle, no problem. There will also be master classes where you can feel like an aircraft designer. And if you want to look at the holy of holies - the dashboard of a 4th generation fighter - then the organizers will install an interactive “head” of the Su-27 aircraft on the territory of the park.

Where to look for a festival in the first days of autumn

Revolution Square has been welcoming theater lovers and those interested in acting since the first days of September. A theater school will open there. Open lessons and lectures on the intricacies of acting and the history of Moscow theaters will be held daily for students of all ages.

The school will teach you the art of vocals and reveal the secrets of stage speech. Everyone will be able to take part in improvised performances. Theater lovers will learn about the history of costumes and sets of the most famous Moscow productions. Guests will be told about great directors - from Konstantin Stanislavsky to Yuri Lyubimov.

On the stage of this venue every day (from 17:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and from 16:00 to 19:00 on weekends) there will be theatrical performances and musical performances about Moscow.

The stage will also be installed in Kamergersky Lane, on a site dedicated to opera and ballet. Spectators can expect performances from modern orchestras and the best classical opera artists, a program of everyone’s favorite songs about Moscow and a ballet show - classical ballet with elements of modern jazz.

The festival site on Tverskaya Square will be dedicated to the continuity of generations and traditions. “Family trees” will be established here. Some of them will tell about the families of the owners of famous Moscow mansions - the Morozovs and the Ryabushinskys. Some trees will be empty. On them, festival guests will be able to post photographs and talk about their families. Also, as part of the “My Family Tree” campaign, open classes on genealogy will be held.

In addition, master classes of architectural workshops will be held at this site, where everyone will be able to create models of buildings and current art objects, study the history and modern trends of architecture, and also master the art of architectural sketching.

From the first day of autumn, a festival site will appear on Arbat dedicated to the creators of aircraft and space explorers who lived and worked in Moscow. Bright tantamares “Airplane Wings” will be installed on the street, next to which you can take photographs and selfies. An aircraft designers club will open for inquisitive guests of the holiday. During the classes, everyone will learn about the most popular passenger and cargo aircraft, as well as fighter aircraft that are being designed in Moscow. In addition, guests will be invited to assemble flying models of the An-2, Yak-3 and Su-27 aircraft themselves.

Masts with sails, signal sea flags, mooring ropes and navigation instruments will appear on Novy Arbat, where the “Great Sea Adventure” quest will take place from September 1 to 10. Players will feel like real travelers. They will learn to navigate using international maritime signal flags and pennants, transmit radio messages, read maps and plot a ship's course, and will also find themselves in an interactive polar camp and have the opportunity to take photographs at the “North Pole”. City Day on Tverskaya Street on September 9 and 10

The largest, brightest and most eventful part of the festival will take place on City Day - September 9 and 10. The main street of the holiday will be Tverskaya, which for two days will be open only for pedestrian walks from Pushkinskaya Square to Manezhnaya. Okhotny Ryad will also become car-free - from Mokhovaya Street to Teatralny Proezd.

Festival venues will be located throughout Tverskaya, and guests will be able to gradually move from one to another. About 200 art objects will be installed along the street. There will be a model of the Salyut-7 orbital space station, an interactive film set, a ten-meter climbing wall in the form of Moscow City towers, a Parkour Park sports ground and much more.
In total, six entertainment zones will be created on the main street of the holiday, dedicated to the main themes of City Day: “Moscow conquers”, “Moscow builds”, “Moscow invents”, “Moscow opens”, “Moscow creates” and “Moscow sets records”.

The street space from Kozitsky Lane to Maly Gnezdnikovsky will be filled with space decorations. Festival guests will be able to see models of the Vostok-1 spacecraft and the Salyut-7 orbital space station. Through special windows inside the station you will be able to see the instrument panel, living quarters and the astronaut in the orbital suit.

Part of Tverskaya from Maly Gnezdnikovsky to Voznesensky Lane will be turned into a street of attractions and architectural monuments. Art objects will be installed there in the form of all the Stalinist high-rise buildings in Moscow, the buildings of the Rizhsky and Yaroslavsky railway stations, a model of the Shukhov Tower, the Melnikov House and the sculpture “Worker and Collective Farm Woman”. An experimental construction site will open for children, where they will learn to operate a crane and excavator and feel like real city builders. Nearby, guests can see a model of the Crimean Bridge, 15 meters long and five meters high. A copy of it will be used as a real rope town, where you can test your dexterity.

A real scientific cluster will open between Voznesensky and Stoleshnikov lanes. There you can find out how time flows and the days and months of the year change - this will be shown by a two-meter mechanical model of a calendar with an open mechanism. Those who are interested not in man-made mechanisms, but in the precise systems that nature creates, will be curious to look at the transparent panels on which you can see the circulatory system and the human skeleton.

Between Stoleshnikov and Bryusov lanes there will be a site dedicated to scientists and researchers who lived and worked in Moscow.

For example, there festival guests will see a model of the deep-sea research vehicle "Mir", created in Moscow by scientist Igor Mikhaltsev, a papyrus boat "Ra-2", on which the famous Soviet television journalist Yuri Senkevich traveled, as well as a large globe with a small dot on it - Moscow.

A festival zone dedicated to art has been organized from Bryusov to Kamergersky Lane. They will set up a real film set there with a film camera, scenery and spotlights. And next to it there will be a dressing room with makeup artists, stylists and make-up artists who will help Muscovites transform into real movie heroes. Near Kamergersky Lane, the legendary transforming scenery for the play “The Magnanimous Cuckold,” staged by Vsevolod Meyerhold in 1922, will be recreated.

Selfie lovers will be able to take a spectacular photo while inside a three-dimensional model of Kandinsky’s painting “Improvisation No. 8”. You will also be able to take photos in the company of your favorite Soviet cartoon characters - Gena the Crocodile and Cheburashka. At the site, guests will also be able to practice animation - create their own frames with the characters from Yuri Norshtein’s cartoon “Hedgehog in the Fog.”

The space dedicated to sports achievements and records will be divided into three zones. The first will be located on the section from Kamergersky to Nikitsky Lane. For City Day, a ten-meter climbing wall in the form of the Moscow City towers will be built on this site. On site, instructors will provide visitors with the necessary equipment and conduct free master classes on rock climbing.

For lovers of strength training and outdoor activity, a huge “Parkour Park” with a total area of about two thousand square meters will be built. An area for hand-to-hand combat and a boxing ring will be located nearby.

A second sports ground will appear in the area from Nikitsky Lane to the intersection of Tverskaya and Mokhovaya streets. There, festival guests will be able to work out on exercise machines to develop coordination, jump on trampolines and watch performances by extreme cyclists in the freestyle park.

And on Okhotny Ryad, from Mokhovaya Street to Teatralny Proezd, you can play volleyball and football on the sand, practice fencing and ride hoverboards. There will also be demonstration performances by teams of cheerleaders and acrobatic rock and roll and breakdance dancers. The street will be decorated with a three-meter Olympic torch and a “Sport” sculpture with figures of a weightlifter, gymnast, and biathlete. There will also be a large stage for concerts.

For the 870th anniversary, Moscow will be decorated in a single corporate style. The concept was based on original textile patterns created by Soviet artists Lyubov Popova and Varvara Stepanova in 1923–1924. In their work on ornaments, they were guided by the works of world-famous Russian avant-garde artists and constructivists.

The parks also prepared a rich program for the City Day celebration. Visitors will see fashion shows by the capital's designers, enjoy performances by European and Russian opera singers, plunge into the atmosphere of the 1960s and 1970s, and watch their favorite films about the capital.

50 free excursions have been prepared for Muscovites for City Day

For the 870th anniversary of the capital, 50 educational excursions along iconic routes have been prepared for Muscovites and guests of the city. They will take place daily from August 12 to September 10. Anyone can join the free walks lasting one and a half to two hours.

This year City Day is dedicated to the achievements of outstanding Muscovites, so the guides will pay special attention to the fates of famous people who lived in our city. They will talk about Alexander Pushkin and Mikhail Lermontov, Pavel Tretyakov and Marina Tsvetaeva, merchant Alexei Bakhrushin, the Mamontovs and Soldatenkovs, as well as the entrepreneurs Morozovs.

“Conducting free excursions during the City Day celebrations is important and interesting. Especially for this event, the guides have prepared a series of premiere routes reflecting all the diversity of the capital. Each walk will be an author’s gift from historians, local historians, art critics, journalists and actors,” said Evgeniy Stepanov, organizer of the free excursion project “Walking Around Moscow”.

On August 12, participants in the excursion “Veliky Posad: monks, printers and old gentlemen” will look into the secluded corners of the most ancient district of the capital - Kitay-Gorod. They will be able to explore authentic, restored sections of the Kitai-Gorod wall, miraculously preserved ancient temples and ancient apartment buildings. The townspeople will learn when the telegraph first appeared in Moscow, how Ivan Fedorov published his first book, who the “old gentlemen” are and where they are hiding.
In addition, Muscovites and tourists will have the chance to go on a “space” walk. August 12 and 17, as well as September 10 during the excursion “We are the first! Moscow is conquering,” they will walk through the park dedicated to space explorers. The guides will talk about the lives of famous inventors and rocket developers, mention the times of confrontation between the USA and the USSR, and remember animal astronauts.

On August 13 and September 10, everyone is invited to the excursion “The City of the Avant-Garde Behind the Mytnaya Zastava.” During the walk, they will be introduced to early Soviet architecture (1920s - 10930s) and utopian ideas for the life structure of that time.

On August 31st there will be a walk around the outskirts of the extraordinary Ostozhenka. The guide will show you the most expensive Moscow house, and also explain how to properly “drive away a quitter.”

On September 3, citizens will walk along the streets, alleys and squares that are connected with the fate of Vladimir Mayakovsky. The guide will tell you about the creative life, friends and family of the poet.
They will also tell Muscovites about the Meshchanskaya Sloboda area, in which the history of the city is surprisingly intertwined with the destinies of famous people. Here Konstantin Tsiolkovsky fell in love, the poet Valery Bryusov suffered and created, Viktor Vasnetsov became famous as an artist, and the manufacturer Matvey Kuznetsov almost became a victim of a fatal duel. At various times, people from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, monastery monks and the retinue of Simeon the Proud lived here. Anyone who wants to enjoy a walk and fascinating stories is welcome on the excursion “Along the Naprudnaya settlement to the Trinity courtyard. A lively place of a quiet monastery" September 9.

For the Administration and the organizing committee, the main task was to create a program that would delight all residents and guests of the capital: these days, the city of Moscow will turn into a single grandiose concert venue, where numerous processions, parades, performances, and performances by domestic and foreign artists will take place. Numerous stage complexes will be installed throughout Moscow, where groups of different genres will perform for spectators. And according to good tradition, the main gift for all those celebrating will be a stunning fireworks display - a light show that will decorate the metropolis in the brightest colors.

As part of Moscow City Day 2017, festive events dedicated to the celebration of the 870th anniversary of Moscow will be held at the central venues of the capital. The program of events for City Day is drawn up taking into account the wishes of Muscovites themselves, also as part of a large-scale online voting in the “Active Citizen” project.

How Muscovites and guests of the capital celebrate City Day

Moscow is one of the most beautiful cities on our planet. With each new year it becomes more and more modern, but, at the same time, maintains its historical appearance thanks to the care of the Government and its residents. Here you can find unique architectural monuments and skyscrapers surprising in their size, picturesque parks with pristine natural landscapes and business centers, monumental sculptures and unusual art objects. One thing is for sure: eclecticism, in which the new harmoniously coexists with the old, gives Moscow that unique atmosphere that is so appreciated by Russian residents and guests from abroad. This city never stops, everything in it is aimed at development and moving forward! During the September celebrations, all residents and guests of Moscow will be united by a common mood - joy and pride in the greatness and incomparable beauty of this city, which is so great to live in! Preparations for the celebration are already in full swing: it is reported that witnesses of the celebration will have something to be surprised by. Those who have already had the joy of arriving in Moscow in the first weeks of September will certainly confirm that City Day is celebrated here on more than a large scale. Concert venues are being built everywhere, fairs are opening, festivals, flash mobs, and mass processions are taking place. The capital is being transformed beyond recognition: multi-colored lights appear on the facades of buildings, colorful banners are full of congratulatory inscriptions, city squares and parks come to life with bubbling fountains and delightful illuminations. An unusual project will be launched in Moscow as part of the implementation of the festive decoration concept, which will be one of the surprises for the capital's residents. Specially equipped concert venues will be organized in every district of Moscow so that residents can join the celebration near their place of residence. However, traditionally, the largest and most spectacular performances will be held in such iconic places as Tverskaya Street, Red Square, Vasilyevsky Spusk, Poklonnaya Gora, Vorobyovy Gory, Tsvetnoy Boulevard. Another good tradition that delights Moscow residents year after year: numerous museums, art centers, exhibition halls and galleries will open their doors to visitors.

The history of City Day celebrations dates back to the 19th century. The first celebration on this, then still new, occasion took place on January 1, 1847. A decree was issued, authored by Emperor Nicholas I, which stated that a holiday would be organized in honor of the 700th anniversary of the founding of Moscow. Residents of the city gathered in the center to witness an unusual show - illumination from greasy bowls. However, it was windy that day, which prevented the performance from lasting long. Special services dedicated to this significant date were held in the capital's churches and temples. After one century, in 1947 Moscow celebrated its 800th anniversary, but not on September 1st, but on September 7th. The city was decorated with numerous images of leaders and symbols of the Soviet era. After dusk, fireworks were launched. Several decades later, according to the decree of Boris Nikolaevich Yeltsin, it was decided to celebrate City Day in early September. Food fairs opened all over Moscow, and the population strolled through them and made purchases. In 1997, when Yuri Luzhkov was already the mayor of Moscow, City Day, or rather its 850th anniversary, was celebrated in a new way: musicians and actors performed in front of the audience on several stages installed in the city. Thus, the performances took place on Cathedral and Tverskaya squares, in the State Central Concert Hall “Russia”, in Luzhniki. Since then, City Day has been celebrated annually.

The celebration of City Day in Moscow is becoming larger and more diverse every year. The fact remains unchanged that this event is always very colorful, crowded and grandiose: many concerts, performances, festivals, fairs, flash mobs and other entertainment events attract thousands of spectators. This year 2017, Muscovites and guests of the city can expect both a traditional program with solemn and touching moments, and a number of surprises. For a few days in September, the city will literally become one big family celebrating a birthday, and the birthday person will be a city near and dear to their heart.

The main program, as has been customary for many years, will be organized on the most popular Moscow streets and squares: Tverskaya, Vasilyevsky Spusk, Poklonnaya and Vorobyovy Gory, Tsvetnoy Boulevard. Of course, a number of events will take place on the main square of our country - Red Square.

As a rule, September days pamper residents of the European part of Russia with warmth and clear cloudless skies. That is why most events on Birthday Day are usually celebrated in Moscow at venues located in the fresh air. Numerous stage complexes are installed on boulevards, walking pedestrian areas, and parks so that residents and guests of the city have the opportunity to admire the concert program outside the walls of the buildings. This unites all residents of the capital, giving them a sense of belonging and community. The number of celebration venues will exceed two hundred. You can get lost in such an abundance of offers, but if you study the detailed program of upcoming events in advance, you can create your own personalized itinerary. Thus, the opening of the City Day, which takes place on Red Square, is worthy of a mandatory visit. In a solemn congratulatory speech, the President of our country will address the residents of Moscow, after which the concert program itself will begin with performances by popular groups and solo performers.

Then you can safely go on a long walk around the city and attend the most significant events. We recommend that you definitely visit Tverskaya Street, Poklonnaya Gora, Tsvetnoy, Strastnoy and Petrovsky Boulevards, Teatralnaya, Pushkinskaya, Manezhnaya Squares, Central Park of Culture and Culture named after. Gorky and Sokolniki. During these days of September, moving around the capital, you simply cannot help but catch some kind of performance, as they will be organized everywhere: excursions around the historical center, noisy fairs, festivals with performances by street theaters, acrobats, circus performers and magicians, sports shows, memorable performances, large-scale events. Thus, as part of the celebration of City Day, a festival with a fair will be held on Tverskoy and Tsvetnoy boulevards, as well as on Neglinnaya and Tverskaya streets.
