Established in 1863 as Kansas State Agricultural College today Kansas State University (K-State) is a public research university and one of America’s first land-grant schools. With an acceptance rate of about 95% Kansas State is very easy to get in.

For admission to the Bachelor's program, the university offers an Academic Accelerator Program specially designed for international students. You can start your accelerated program in August, January or May. This course lasts one year (three semesters), if successfully completed, you will continue to study in the second year of the Bachelor's degree at the University of Kansas in one of the presented specialties. The program involves studying subjects in one of the following areas: Business and finance, exact sciences, mathematics, technology, engineering, general humanities. Story
On February 20, 1863, Kansas Governor Thomas Carney signed into law a bill creating a state university in Lawrence. The act was conditioned by a gift from Lawrence of $15,000 to an endowment fund and site for a university, within or near the city, of at least forty acres (16 hectares) of land. If Lawrence is unable to meet these conditions, Emporia will receive the university in Lawrence's place.
The selected site for the university was a hill known as Mount Oread, which belonged to former Kansas Governor Charles L. Robinson. Robinson and his wife Sarah were granted a 40-acre (16 he) site in Kansas in exchange for land elsewhere. Philanthropist Amos Adams Lawrence donated $10,000 of the required endowment fund, and the citizens of Lawrence raised the remaining funds by issuing notes with the support of Governor Carney. On November 2, 1863, Governor Carney declared that Lawrence had fulfilled the conditions to become a state university, and the following year the university was officially organized. The School Board of Regents held its first meeting in March 1865, which is the event that KU dates its founding from. Work on the first college building began later in the year. The university opened to classes on September 12, 1866, and the first class graduated in 1873.
During World War II, Kansas was one of 131 colleges and universities nationally that participated in the V-12 Naval Academy curriculum, which offered students a path to a Navy commission.

"Integrated Accelerator Program"
The University of Kansas preparation program is designed for students from other countries with a high level of English language proficiency. The duration of the program is 2 semesters. Admission to the program is January, May, August. Requirements: a high school diploma with an average GPA of 2.5 and an English language proficiency level of IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 88 or their equivalent. As part of the preparatory program, students take the necessary subjects of the first year of the bachelor's degree and receive additional language and educational support.
"Academic Accelerator Program 2 and 3"
Preparatory program for foreign students who need additional integrated language training, program duration is 2 and 3 semesters, respectively.
Students can choose one of three areas of study depending on their preferences:
- Humanities and Social Sciences;
- Business, finance and economics;
- Exact sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics.
This year will be counted as the first year of study in the university’s undergraduate program (there are more than 190 variations in total). In addition to academic knowledge, students will actively study the English language, culture and history of the United States, learn to analyze and interpret, and develop their personal and professional skills and abilities.
Students will be provided with support in everything: from studying to solving everyday issues. "Master's Accelerator Program"
The program, lasting from 1 to 3 semesters, prepares students for admission to a master's program; the number of semesters of preparation depends on the level of knowledge of the English language.
"Intensive language course"
The program is intended for those who do not yet have enough language knowledge to enter the training program. Training takes place at the Applied English Center at the university. Terms and costs depend on the entry level.
"Career advancement program"
The university also helps successful students who achieve a GPA of 3.3 or higher (out of a maximum of 4.0) during their studies prepare for future employment and find internships. Students additionally gain skills in writing a resume, interviewing, and learning to look for work. Students are accommodated in one of two offered residences:
- Hashinger Hall
This residence is considered the center of arts and creativity of the university. It was completely renovated in 2005 and includes a theater studio, music classroom, and space for performances and expression. It involves accommodating 370 students in rooms designed for 2 people.
All rooms are fully furnished and have Internet access. On each floor there is a living room for comfortable relaxation. There you can play ping pong, table hockey or billiards. In addition, students can engage in creative activities - for example, modeling or drawing in rooms specially equipped for this. The building also has its own laundry and cafeteria.
- Ellsworth Halll
This residence is designed to accommodate 580 students in double or quadruple rooms. The rooms are equipped with everything necessary for comfortable study and life, each of them has its own bathroom, access to wireless Internet (four-bed rooms also have their own kitchen). A large living room for students to relax is located on the ground floor. On the second floor of the residence there is a career center for students, which can be used by any university student. The building has its own laundry room.
Students can eat at one of 20 different establishments on the university campus; here students can satisfy any culinary cravings. Even if they are vegetarians or on a special diet.

The university has preparation programs for bachelor's degrees especially for foreign participants. The purpose of these programs is to bring the level of knowledge and English language of applicants in line with the requirements of the university and adaptation to the education system and way of life in the country.
The training lasts 2 or 3 semesters, depending on the type of preparation and level of English (if necessary, you can first take special English courses). Courses begin throughout the year (there are options to start in spring, summer or fall), upon completion students move on to the main programs of study. The essence of these types of training is to combine academic subjects and disciplines with additional academic support, adaptation and cultural enrichment. Each student attends intensive English classes, which actively develop language communication and learning skills, research skills and the correct use of language in everyday life. The programs have a flexible structure - students have the right to independently choose disciplines, set priorities, and determine the most interesting sections of science for themselves. Successful training is equivalent to undergraduate courses - students, accordingly, immediately transfer either to the third semester of the first year (upon completion of 2-semester programs) or to the second year of the bachelor's degree (upon completion of a 3-semester program) to one of the selected specialties (available for transfer all undergraduate majors at the University of Kansas).

The undergraduate department offers students a large number of areas of study, covering a wide variety of areas of science and knowledge. - Participants: applicants entering undergraduate preparation programs (International Year One (Academic Accelerator Program)) and Pre-Master's master's preparation programs (Master's Accelerator Program).
The university offers foreign applicants special English language courses - Pre-Accelerator Intensive English, which are designed for applicants to bachelor's/master's programs. Courses run throughout the academic year and may begin in January, May or August. The training lasts 16 weeks, during which students intensively develop their English language skills and improve their knowledge by working on the main areas of linguistics:
Students are taught by highly qualified native-speaking teachers with many years of successful experience. Students are in a comfortable and cozy environment, specialists try to find an approach to each student. On all complex and unclear issues, students receive timely and comprehensive advice. Much attention is paid to teaching students to correctly and accurately express their thoughts and ideas in written and oral form, as well as everyday communication skills and language use. Upon completion of the programs, students significantly improve their language level and move on to preparation courses for bachelor's and master's degrees.
