Holidays
What is the best time for schoolchildren? Holidays, of course! Autumn, winter, spring and definitely summer holidays. These are the times when you can forget about homework, school and teachers.
Usually autumn holidays are not very exciting. The weather is getting worse, it"s raining and you don"t have much opportunity to walk outside for a long time. During autumn holidays my friends and I usually spend time at each other"s places playing computer games.
Winter holidays are much more interesting! I like skating and my family usually goes to the skating rink in a nearby park. Sometimes my friends and I go outside the city to the ski lodge. We rent skis and go cross-country skiing in the forest. Just before the New Year"s Day a big fir tree is set in our park. It is decorated with garlands and large toys. Ice hills are also made in the park. I like going to the park with my younger sister and my friends. At New Year"s night my family usually goes outside. My father and I make a fireworks display. My mother always says that it is dangerous, but we all know that she likes our fireworks. We also congratulate everyone who we meet with the New Year and they congratulate us back. I like it that people are so kind during this holiday!
The longest term is behind and spring holidays come. It is getting warm every day, streams are flowing in the streets. It is fun, but you should be careful not to slip on the spring ice and fall in a puddle! I walk with my friends, go to the cinema, ride a bike or roller-skate.
At last summer has come! The books have been taken back to the library, now other children will use them next year. Summer is my favourite season. I can wear only a T-shirt, jeans or shorts and light trainers or flip-flops. I have three months of rest which I can devote to myself and to my friends. During the first two weeks of summer holidays my family and I go to some resort. We have already been to Turkey and Egypt and this year we are going to Spain. We like sunbathing and swimming in the sea. I wish we could do this all year round!
Then we go back to the city and my sister and I go to our grandparents" country house. It is not worse than holidays at the sea. Our country house is rather far from our city - about two and a half hours by car. But it is worth going there anyway. I take a bike and a games console with me. I meet my friends there. I see some of them every day at school and I don"t see others for the whole year, so I have an opportunity to meet them again and catch up. We ride bikes, sunbathe on the river bank, swim in the river and communicate with each other.
I wish holidays were all year round!

Most people like to leave their places on holidays. Some prefer a quite rest in the country or at their dachas. Others go to the seaside and enjoy swimming and sunbathing on the golden beaches of the South. A lot of people are crazy about travelling and feel great visiting new places, getting more impressions and knowledge about them.

As for me, I prefer going to the country on holidays. Almost every summer I visit my grandparents there. This summer was not an exception. In June I stayed in the country for about a month. There I enjoyed fresh air, pleasant views of the surrounding nature. I helped my grandma and grandpa about home and in the garden. I watered plants and weeded the garden, mowed the long grass.

Besides my grandparents, I have some friends in the country. This summer we went fishing and camping together. It was fun to play ball on the grass! Also we liked lying in the sun and bathing in the river. In the evening we went boating on the lake. We went to the forest and gathered raspberries. It was a real pleasure to stay out of town!

In July I went abroad, namely, to Finland with my parents and a little sister. We were touring by car around the country, so we could see a lot of new places. I had a good time in this country!

In August I stayed in the town reading books, playing football with my friends and preparing for school.
So, I spent my holidays very well and had a good rest!

Что касается меня, я предпочитаю ездить за город на каникулы. Почти каждое лето я навещаю бабушку и дедушку. И это лето не было исключением. Весь июнь я провел за городом. Там я наслаждался свежим воздухом, приятными видами природы. Я помогал бабушке и дедушке по дому и в саду. Я поливал растения и полол сорняки в саду, косил высокую траву.

За городом, кроме бабушки и дедушки, у меня есть друзья. Этим летом мы вместе ходили на рыбалку и кемпинг. Было весело играть в мяч на траве! Также нам нравилось лежать на солнце и купаться в реке. Вечером мы катались на лодке по озеру. Мы ходили в лес и собирали малину. Было так приятно провести время вне города!

В июле я ездил за границу - в Финляндию - с родителями и младшей сестрой. Мы добирались туда на машине и смогли увидеть много новых мест. Я хорошо провел время в этой стране!

В августе я оставался в городе, читал книги, играл в футбол со своими друзьями и готовился к школе.

Я отлично провел летние каникулы и хорошо отдохнул!

I love summer holidays because they are very long and I have plenty of spare time. In June I"m at home. I read books, go for a walk with my friends.Sometimes my parents send me to a sports camp where children do sport, go hiking and that"s really healthy.

In July my parents are usually on holiday and we travel somewhere. We have been to many interesting places. Last year we travelled to Turkey. We stayed in a good hotel with all the modern conveniences including a shower and TV. The weather was fine. In the morning we went to the beach. We sunbathed and swam in the sea. Then we returned to the hotel. We had lunch and had some rest. In the evening we went for a walk along the promenade or around the city. We went in a couple of cruises. Of course we took a lot of photos.

In August I usually go to my grandparents who live in the country.I help them with some housework and also in the garden. My grandfather is a very good fisherman and we go fishing to the river. I also swim in the river, the water is really warm. Sometimes we go to the forest and pick mushrooms.I have some friends in the country.In the evening I go for a walk with them. We ride a bike, play different games. I like staying at my grandparents.

At the end of August I go back home. I have some time for my hobbies like reading, playing the guitar or computer games. I meet my friends who I miss while staying in the country. We talk to each other about many interesting things and show to each other our photos.

I"m very happy about my summer holidays but I also look forward to seeing my school friends and teachers.

After each term in school we had our holidays. It"s fun to have holidays, you can do whatever you like, you don"t have to get up too early, do your homework or think of troubles which occur very often at school.

Most of all I liked summer holidays, they were the longest ones, though, when winter was snowy and and frosty, I enjoyed my winter holidays skating and skiing, sledging and making a snowman or having a fight with snowballs.

I"d like to tell you about my summer holidays I spent in Sochi. It was just three years ago. My parents and me were sitting in the living-room discussing our plans for the summer holidays. My father suggested that we should go to Sochi. On hearing that I jumped up with joy and said it was a wonderful idea. My mother wasn"t against the idea either.

So one summer morning we started for our journey to Sochi. First, we travelled to Odessa by plane and from there we got to Sochi by boat. We stayed in Odessa for three days, our relatives live there and they gave us board and lodging. So we had an excellent opportunity to go round the city, to see beautiful monuments to the famous people who had lived in Odessa, museums and the Odessa Opera House.

We enjoyed our trip from Odessa to Sochi. The Black Sea was calm. We sat on deck in the lounge chairs and looked at the sea. I like Sochi very much, we bathed and went boating and swim-ming, lay in the sun on the beach. In the evenings we went for a walk or dropped in at a cafe to have ice-cream or juice. My father showed us the famous Botanical Gardens, we went for hikes in the mountains, we saw the magnificent Augura Waterfalls.

The sea was nice and warm. The weather was fine. When it was time to go home, we were sorry to leave the marvellous town of Sochi.

Undoubtedly, all schoolchildren are so eagerly waiting for their holidays to come. In Russia school holidays, or as they are called school breaks, occur four times a year: in spring, in autumn, in winter and in summer. It is a brilliant opportunity to take some rest from your studies, to gather new strength and to revise the material learnt.

The summer vacation is the longest break in the school year. So, in Russia schoolchildren usually have 3 months break from school during summer. This starts in June and ends in the end of August. Summer vacations always revive the best memories in our mind. It is the time for travelling, fun and pleasure. People usually spend much time out in the open air as the weather is fine. Sometimes they leave town for the country and have a wonderful time there swimming, sunbathing and playing different games. Most people go to the seaside and recharge their energy for the whole year. As far as I am concerned, I like to catch beautiful sunsets at the beach, look at the stars and listen to the murmur of the sea waves. If I stay in Rostov, I meet my friends and we try to arrange something interesting. We often go to the movies and concerts, dine out at the open-air cafes and go roller-skating.

The autumn vacation usually lasts for a week. Schoolchildren usually spend most of their time at home because the weather is usually cold and rainy. They play computer games, watch TV, read books or listen to music. But if it is “Indian summer”, people enjoy warm and quiet weather. In this case one can walk in the park and admire the colorful beauty of autumn leaves.

The winter holidays are always much fun. Winter is a good time for skating, skiing and sledding. Children like to play snowballs or make a snowman. Besides, on the 31st of December Russian people see the old year out and see the New Year in. So, New Year’s Eve is a very busy time. People attack shops stuffing their bags with presents for their relatives and friends. All shops are nicely decorated with toys, tinsel and garlands, and everywhere you can feel the spirit of the holiday. As far as I am concerned, I usually celebrate this holiday with my family and friends. On the 1st of January we usually come to see our relatives. We sing karaoke and dance.

One of the most exciting times during the year is the spring vacation. It is the time when nature awakens from its long winter sleep and the snow begins to melt. First spring flowers such as snowdrops and tulips appear everywhere. Everybody enjoys the beginning of spring. People often go for walks in the park, have picnics or sit by the lake in order to enjoy the sunshine and the natural beauty of the world. Besides, spring is a good time to revise the material learnt and to prepare for exams.

Летние каникулы – самый длительный перерыв в учебном году. В России школьники отдыхают от занятий в течение трех летних месяцев. Каникулы начинаются в июне и заканчиваются в конце августа. При упоминании о летних каникулах в памяти всегда всплывают лучшие воспоминания. Это время путешествий, веселья и удовольствия. Люди обычно проводят много времени на открытом воздухе, поскольку стоит отличная погода. Иногда они уезжают за город и отлично проводят там время, купаясь, загорая и играя в различные игры. Многие люди ездят летом на море и заряжаются положительной энергией на весь год. Что касается меня, мне нравится провожать закаты, сидя на берегу моря, смотреть на звезды и слушать шум прибоя. Зимние каникулы всегда приносят массу удовольствия. Зима – это отличное время для катания на коньках, лыжах и санках. Детям нравится играть в снежки и лепить снеговиков. Кроме того, 31 декабря россияне провожают старый и встречают новый год. Канун Нового года – время суеты. Люди атакуют магазины, наполняя свои сумки множеством подарков для родственников и друзей. Все магазины красиво украшены игрушками, мишурой и гирляндами, а повсюду чувствуется дух праздника. Если говорить обо мне, то я обычно праздную этот праздник со своей семьей и друзьями. Первого января нового года мы обычно навещаем наших родственников. Мы поем в караоке и танцуем.

Весенние каникулы – один из самых захватывающих периодов в году. Это время, когда природа пробуждается от долгого зимнего сна и начинает таять снег. Повсюду появляются первые весенние цветы, такие как подснежники и тюльпаны. Все рады наступлению весны.
